Hosting Sites

For those of you who have their own website - what are you using? Yahoo? Geocities? I\'m just now exploring this and really don\'t know where to start.

Mostly it will be quiet on the graphics but full of text & pictures - I\'m not doing anything fancy just some simple menus, pics of all my painted work, links, some articles, reviews, etc.

Ideally free (for me) - I just want a place to send folks who want to see more of my work - any suggestions on the Internet angle? Whos got the best hassle free deal out there?

erm.... i do webdesigning stuff. best is not to use these free webspace things. you\'ll always hate yourself for having chosen them, when the question which webspace to take came up.

a) most of them forbid remote linking
means - you cannot post a pic on this webspace anywhere else then on sites laying on that webspace. like in forums or cmon.

b) most of them are slow: as you have thousand of users working on these webservers they are pretty slow from time to time.

c) pop ups or other advertising. also unwanted spam emails from the servers and so on.

really - beware. there are lots of very good hosting services. if you are familliar with german i can only reccopmend you:
http://www.kontent.de
http://www.inframove.de
http://www.btnet.de
http://www.schlund.de and maybe
http://www.strato.de

if not, i\'m sorry but i don\'t know any good international providers. i have worked with all the ones named above. for commercial sites a schlund-server is the very best, but surely overpowered for what you want to do.
www.strato.de is nice for your personal site, as is kontent. the other ones are great for single business websites.

My ISP actually gives all Users a 10 Meg personal Webspace to do with as you wish. I think the only restriction is it can\'t be for a business. You should investigate your ISP, maybe they have a similar package. I\'m currently on DSL, when I was on dial-up it was 5MB.
