Hello,

I hope you can help me. I\'m a newbiepainter and I want to paint some miniatures for tabletop with clothes with bonewhite as basic color.
I have a lot of problems with layering. It looks terrible, I think. So I want to ask is there a easy way to bring some deep to those bonewhite or a color near this? Some kind of wash or something?

Thank you for your helps...

i think i understand i will try to help i would start off with a base coat of bleached bone working up to hilights of pure white if you want to wash it try different washes of codex grey or space wolf grey than a final highlite of white

if you can get to a gamesworkshop then have a chat with the staff and get them to demonstrate how good the new gw washes are for individuals such as your self.

they will improve your painting neatness and speed.
which means you will not only have the models done quicker for gaming but you can also spend a little while practicing layering and other techniques.

I guess if I read this right you want to have a bone coloring for clothings

I would start off with either snakebite leather, or bleached bone for a basecoat
Hit it with maybe chestnut wash for the nooks and such, the highlight in 2-3 stages
1.) bleached bone 100%
2.) bleached bone 50%/skull white 50%)
3.) skull white 100% for final touches

Thanks alot for your hints.
I own all washes of GW because I like them. But I don\'t know how to use them for white or bleached bone.
What do you use for making washes. Do you only thin down colors with wate or do you put in some \"strange magical\" stuff?

I think grey isn\'t the right base for the clothes because the deeper parts should be a brown color. But I will try it with some brown color. Do you think scorched brown or terra earth is to dark? What color should I use.

@Bigdennis52: Do you mean chestnut ink from GW? Is there a similar wash or can I make this by my own? Because I think the inks are to shiny.

Sorry for my poor english, I hope you understand me...

here\'s my method for painting something bone white:

Bestial Brown,
Vomit Brown,
Bubonic Brown,
Bleached Bone.

try it first, if the bestial base color is too dark for your taste, just leave it out and start with Vomit.
If the Bleached bon highlight is not light enough, just ad another highlight in Skull white.

Another method , using washes would probably be:

Bubonic Brown,
Bleached bone,
Skull white.

Followed by a wash, either watered down, or straight out of the pot.
either Griphone Sepia or Devlan Mud

Hope this helps.

Here is another one for you,
I use
Khemri brown
Bleached bone/vomit brown 50/50
Devlan mud wash
bleached bone
bleached bone/skull white 50/50
then layers with progressively more white.

There are as many methods as there are painters. It is just a matter of personal taste.

Thank you all for your help. I have done it so now:
white primer
bonewhite thined with water
wash with Devlan mud thinned with water 2 water : 1 mud
highlit with 2 bonewhite : 1 skullwhite
highligt 1 bonewhite : 2 skullwhite

The problem I have is, that the wash leaves an ugly border of color. But with later highlight you can make it invinceble.
When the minis are completely done, I post some pics.

I will try the other colors with my choir when they come.

Granddad!
put a very tiny drop(with a tooth pick/cocktail stick) of washing up liquid in your wash

keep some paper towel handy, if you put too much wash on, touch your brush on the paper towel, and then back on the excess wash. repeat as needed
