How close are you to the GW retail stores?

Recently in White Dwarf I\'ve seen several contests/goings on that seemed interesting to me but I am no where near a GW store!! The closest thing is maybe some comic shops, but that\'s not their speciality... Me trying to explain to the clerk why Chaos Space Marines and regular Marines are totally different is like him trying to explain why Justice League and Justice Friends are different.. :p

ANyways, it really pisses me off that all the locations in Texas are near the Dallas/Houston area.. Since I live as fas west in the state as you can go, that means I\'m closer to Phoenix than I am to the state capital!! There also is a lack of stores in New Mexico, Nevada, and Arizona.. that\'s every state from here to California!!

Canada has this problem moreso because of the fact theres only about 4 stores in the entire country, and three and in Toronto..

Of course, those of you on the near Maryland don\'t have this problem... Guess it\'s time to presuade the family to move.. :p

How far?

I am about 13 miles from the nearest GW store. It\'s in a mall that lies between my home and my workplace.

One of the guys working there was a teacher, and he seemed really on the ball. The younger guys were not so impressive.

I haven\'t been there much when there was something going on. They had an auction before Thanksgiving, but I was out of town. Dunno if they have contests or not.

Why don\'t you move to NC? :)

Actually Chrispy there are a quite a few more than 4 stores in Canada. I live in the greater Toronto area and there are 3 stores within 20 minute drive from my home alone. The head office and battle bunker are less than 10 minutes away. I think I\'m pretty lucky all in all as there are also several comic shops that fully support GW product as well. I will admit though that they haven\'t exactly spread the stores out. They have really concentrated on southern Ontario. Kind of unfortunate for many.

GWShop Canada

Actually there are 17 stores in Canada. Alberta: 4, Ontario: 8, Saskatchewan: 1, and in my Province, British Columbia: 4; three of which are a short drive, between 15-30 minutes, from where I live.

Chrispy, GWS seems to be opening stores like mad, so I am sure you\'ll probably see one in your area soon. The US is a very big place, it takes time to roll out a retail operation, even one as big as GWS. Keep an eye on White Dwarf ,the North American edition always has a full page list with locations.

I\'m about 30 minutes drive from my closest GW store.

I\'ve also seen one of the stores in British Columbia, Canada, when I was on holiday in Victoria BC (no I didn\'t go in... I was on holiday and more concerned with holiday stuff, such as swimming, shopping etc..!). Although I did go to Vancouver, I didn\'t know there were 3 GW stores there (well I assume the other 3 are in Vancouver)!! Although I didn\'t really look for any, and most of my day in Vancouver was spent in China Town (cool place to visit)...

Anyway, that was fairly unrelated to the post but never mind.... I would think that you should have a store nearer you in the future Chrispy, GW opened 13 new stores in the year to 2 June 2002 (6 of these being in North America), and sales outside the UK is their biggest growth area.

On another \"positive\" note the Chairman and Chief Executive stated in the latest annual report (yikes I\'m sad reading this stuff!) \"....our future growth is dependent...... on continuing to introduce more people to the Hobby, and keeping people in the Hobby longer. We do not need ‘hit’ lines... , nor cut-throat pricing.\" No cut-throat pricing needed huh? Here I was thinking that GW charged too much.... how silly I was lol Luckily I bought most of my stuff years ago when they were a lot cheaper...... Some of thier stuff is admittedly very good and I still buy the occassional thing though....

Ah, well admitally, I was looking at the GW list in White Dwarf, and counting the highlighted retail stores. Also, they opened three more in TX, but they\'re in Grapevine, Katy, and Marq-e...... Obviously I have no idea where theses places are, so they can\'t be whitin 100 miles of El Paso. Which, I believe is stupid, because El Paso is the biggest city until Albuquerque.. which doesn\'t have one either!! I think the major problem is that the Southwest is not so densely populated as either coast is. With my luck, though they\'ll probably stop the contests and such by the time they put one up.. :p
