Unbelievable that those forge world models could cost so much. How can they justify the prices on the models costing so much when they are made f plastic?

I don\'t understand it either....
I think it has something to do with the resin casting process or some such thing....
Someone mentioned the reason on this site once, I can\'t remember who (dragonsreach I think)... I do remember it made some sort of sense...lollol
Of course, i did pay 365 dollars for the Chaos war mammoth. So that could be the real reason right there. Suckers like me are willing to shell out the money that they are asking.lol

Welll it has to do with material expenses and labor.
Resin model kits are molded in RTV rubber which is very expensive for starters and tends not to last very long. In my experiance with complex pieces, a RTV mold may only last 30-50 pulls)castings) befor it starts to tear apart. So your always remakeing the molds. The resin is also very expensive. Its a two part liquid thats mixed 50/50 and then poured into the RTV mold, useually put under air pressure in a pressure tank and let cure. Sometimes it can be a very slow tedious process. This is NOTHING like the metal spin casting or plastic injection molding process used for gaming miniatures. It large multi part kits it means lots of molds..lots of time casting each part..and so on and so on. Also the origional models are VERY expensive and being they are sell much lower numbers than the metal kits.. you have to work the price of the origional into each of the castings.
I hope this helps some and Im sure its not waht you wish to hear. But is reality, resin models are going to be pricy

yeh, I think I\'ll stay with my theory that your\'re all just money grabbing jerks
I suppose making it out of resin still makes sense though, seeing as how expensive plastic moulding is, and that a metal chaos war mammoth would probably fall through the table (I remember the weight of those old thunderhawks, woof!).

You supposedly can get more detail on resin models too. I have been happy with my forge world purchases.

aaarrggh....moneygrabmoneygrab....oh, sorry. It\'s absolutely not even possible to make kits like that from plastic, unless you can be SURE you\'re getting your investment back before the end of the world. The getting the plastic Grav Tank mould made cost GW roundabout £50.000, from making the original three-up, getting that cast in high-density resin, getting the steel mould cut etc.
Ok I\'ll repeat myself.....Basically Resin is a one shot deal, unlike metal miniatures,if you fluff that up it\'s X kilos of useless doorstop. With metal you can melt it down again.
My conversations with the Forgeworld sales team iseem to imply that they have had a number of disasters in the past.

At least they are nice solid pieces, unlike the plastics. It actually feels as though you\'re getting your money\'s worth. Besides I was expecting the fire dragon to cost more than £125. So I was pleasantly surprised.

thanks everyone, that\'s very informational. It\'s nice you can ask something on here and that several people can answer and give great answers and feedback.
Partly you have to realize you\'re talking apples and oranges when you\'re comparing prices from GW plastics and forgeworld resins. It\'s the economics of scale. GW can afford to make an injection mold for a tank that they will sell 50-100,000 copies of. With a large Forge world piece they may only sell 1-2% of that.. But the things they sell a lot of drop down into a more normal price range.
And while I\'ve never bought anything but the cheap stuff from them , I can only assume that the price is a reflection of the demand. If no one bought them at relatively higher prices they either wouldn\'t make them or the price would go down. Besides getting an old Armorcast Baneblade or Shadow sword for the price of a Leman Russ and then updating them to look like the Forgeworld pieces is more fun.

So if plastic is so expensive, how come they make everything in the world out of it. Is it a different kind of plastic? Or is it just because the big companies that do that can afford it?
The thing with plastics is that once you\'ve made the initial large investment, the production cost is tiny. So it may cost 50,000 to make the mould, but then pennies to make each model. Thus if you can guaruntee that you will be making lots of casts you can get your money back. In the long run you can make money.
I imagine that GW made a killing off the old Rhino kit, it was around for years.

Yeah, I find it hard to believe that when it was first released, there were 3 in the boxed set for £5.00. ($7.50-$8.00) Let\'s see that nowadays!
