How\'d you get your handle?

Just wondering... is there a story behind it? Do you have different handles on different forums (thinking of folks like ipaintminis)?

Mine comes from paintball. i kind of had an itchy trigger finger my first time out, then just as i\'d shook the nick i crawled through a patch of poison oak while sneaking up on a sniper\'s nest (no wonder it was so easy to get him... he didn\'t think anyone would be stupid enough to crawl on their belly through poison oak just to win a game!lol). So i just learned to imbrace it... even had it put on the name strip on the camoflague i wear when i play. It\'s kind of become my alter ego.:)

Despite allergies to most growing things, I have been blessed with very little reaction to poison oak. When I first started playing, before I learned to be an agressive player who was always on point, I used to ambush people from poison oak patches. Players out here in california are so used to recognizing and avoiding poison oak that it becomes second nature - they disregard any possibility of anyone else being dumb enough to go through it. I would have people look straight at me and keep moving with never noticing me. When I opened fire, they started spraying fire back in pure knee jerk reaction but shot in every direction but where I was... lol

CRS

As one of the old timers still in this hobby I suffer from CRS (Can\'t Remember S**t). Therefore, when it came time to think up a handle I opted for my company userid (last name, first initial) and it has followed me around the internet, hence my handle. From a hobby perspective I\'ve always been partial to Gonzo Miniatures (taking my cue from the Muppet Show character), hence my web site name.

Cheers,
Jack

Okay to return the thread from my hijack... ;)

I use the handle Cento in every forum I go to. It is also the name I have chosen for my figure gallery. The only online place I do not use the name Cento is for online games.

In English, cento is a term that can be used for any item made up of the parts of other similar items. It is most often a term used in quilting (a patchwork quilt is a cento) or in poetry (for those poems that are \"crafted\" using pieces or lines from other poems). Essentially it is using pieces of things to create something new. I found the term by accident while flipping through a dictionary randomly about 12 years ago.

If you hadn\'t already guessed, a figure conversion is also a type of cento.

I the time I discovered the word, I was playing a lot of BattleTech and would often create new mech figures by converting them out of pieces of existing Mechs. I immediately realized I was creating centos out of figure pieces and created a fictional Mech Factory that I called Cento Industries. I stopped playing BattleTech only a couple of years after that, but shifted more heavily into Warhammer. I kept doing conversions, and I kept crediting those conversions to \"Cento Industries\". Eventually the name grew into my online identity.

For more than five years now, my online figure gallery has operated under the name Cento Industries, and conversions are still my first love in figures...

Astonia

My first rpg character (in Mutant chronicles) was called Astonia. She was an extremely stupid inquisitor, sort of a barbarian type but with a huge gun. She was a lot of fun until she was killed in a big shoot out in the sewers...ah, the memories :)

Evil...Because by many in society my ideals are considered evil..like castration of child molesters, taking away the free things in prisons and making the prisoners actually work, etc, etc.

Dave...uh, erm ,let me think....I am the leader of a secret society of Dave\'s...think how many you know...we have a secret greeting..ok not so secret \"Hey Dave..Hey Dave\"...We are running a secret war against the Johns and the Bobs of the world for the monopoly of cheesy poofs, and World Domination, where logic and common sense rule...I could tell ya more but i\'d have to kill you...

Trevor

Brushlicker and Freak!
I was going to be Philip (or Philipa), but the woman next to my Mum in maternity was going to call her son that and my mum hated her and didn\'t want to call me the same name, so I became a \"large settlement*\" after the Rev who married my parents.

A few years ago my Mum admitted she actually doesn\'t like my name much.

*thats what is means in Welsh, a misnomer if ever there was one, I\'m not large at all and rarely settled lol

well since i was mentioned in te original posting, ill tell you my story

my handle came from a long line of handles, heck it even travled the atlantic ocean in search of freedom, it choose its name based on the blunt fact of what it enjoys doing......painting

ok in all seriousness, yes i do use this in other places on the net minus a few it has started many and MANY converstaions and i ususally direct them here, to \"check it out\" but my other handle is usually

TearsxofxJoy- but i didnt think that would be appropriate here, oh, and OrForAwesome17 but i retired that one a while back and its only on my xanga and AIM now

so thats the story of ipaintminis, a very blunt way to say what i enjoy doing.....painting miniatures...

any more questions?lol

Um, I read it in some philosophy book. Quieti manes is old latin or greek for \"rustling through a dimly viewed eternity\" or something thereabouts. I immediately made a mage character on a MUD I played at the time and it\'s stuck with me ever since.

P
Like one of those mrs Doutfire things- you look for something in the room as you quickly descide a moniker- FORTUNATELY the game Praetorians was sitting right there. The 0_1 was in case someone else had the same idea/ no one will sue me hopefully lol

Was from a range of names when I first started MMO games, one way of getting names was deliberatly mispelling names, I already had a mispelt gaia and from there my mind wandered to cain and abel, stuck a silent J on the front of it swapped a k for the c and played vowel tennis and came up with Jkaen.

Jkaen then ended up being the strongest charecter and hence thats the name my guild started to know me by and what i started using elsewhere

My is a nickname that started back in school, standard 2 so that would be grade 4 I think. Anyway, this guy had a thing about calling everyone by the first syllable of their surname and adding \"lit\" on the end.

Mine was the only one that stuck. My SO really doesn\'t like it though. She would prefer I use Gaz.
