How do i paint a really old and weathered rope?

I am looking to paint something similar to the rope the watcher has in the book, how would you go about painting it, with Vallejo colors?
Also i am looking to magnitize an old metal Azriel miniature how big of a magnet do i need in order the banner and gun arm all of that to remain where they are without falling down?

You only need a small magnet on each side of the join if you use rare earth magnets which are very strong. Use a drill bit that is the same diameter as the magnets so it sits flush with the surface and secure it with super glue and baking soda fora strong bond. As for the robes desaturated colors and washes and weathering powders will make it look old and worn if it is cloth. To give it texture use crosshatching or stippling. Also dry brushing or very watered down paints that separate would work if you don't have powders.
