How do I use Metal Medium?

Hello,

I did a quick search about this but couldn\'t get the answers I was looking for.

How would I use Metal Medium (made my Vallejo)?
Would I have to mix it in with my paints as I\'m doing all the different shades or can I just use it as a glaze afterwards to make the colours look more metallic?

Thanks for any help!

:D

you can mix it into colours to create your own coloured metalics.
you can mix it into metals to make them extremely bright.
you can use it as a glaze to bring out super bright glare spots on you metals.

hope these liitle tips help.

your best mixing it in with paints if I understand properly your trying to do coloured metallics????

careful with meallic medium for this as it will alter the colour of colour of what your chnging a bit... Glazing with clear colours such as inks over a metallic base can give a richer finish..
also using a metallic colour that is in a similar tone as the one you are \"metallizing\" e.g for blue use silver for yellow use gold for red use copper
this will often give better results than the metal medium....

also rather than mixing paints in try where possible to use inks ....

Thanks for the help so far.
Well there\'s two things I\'m trying to do really.
First, I\'m trying to paint a metallic black.
Secondly I\'d like to do an icy silver. I\'ve tried a few things but nothing seems to be coming together much and that\'s why I thought a Metallic Medium might work.

What\'s a metallic medium usually used for? Creating glare spots on metallics or something?lol

yeah pretty much.. it\'s also used to reintroduce metallic pigment when thinning metallic paints.....

metallic black is a real trick to pull off.. got any picture examples of exactly what your trying to achieve.. I can\'t bring to mind what metallic black would look like ?

You know, Supervike, I didn\'t even realise that was a joke! I was trying to figure out what Metal Soft and Metal Hard were, then I read the post after yours and finally understood. lol

As for the metallic black, well, I didn\'t just want black with silver scratches (although I\'m still going to be adding scratches to it). I\'ve tried to find some pictures and managed to upload them. Hopefully this link will work and show you what I mean...

You\'ll need to view the image at full size to see what I mean. There should be a button at the top left of the photo that will let you do this.

Thanks,

I use it. You just mix it into your paints. It is real shiny and makes the paint real shiny. When I first opened it I thought that it was metallic paint that was accidentally put into the metal medium pot because of how shiny it was, but it works really well if you use it mixed with paint over metallic basecoats.
