how do you create a advance snow affect

Don\'t know if this an advanced techinque but I like it. I sculpted the snow out of Magic Sculpt, painted and shaded it and lastly put a coat of clear varnish on and quickly powdered that with baking soda.

Just some thoughts off of the top of my head, but the icicles should be easy. Water effects drawn out on some wax paper to a taper. For the snowflakes in hair, it would take time but you could dot some glue onto the hair, then hit it with the snow material. Repeat a lot, and it could work.

Mine tends to lean towards cartoon looking, which I like, but there are many ways to go.

For icicles, transparent glue (for paper in a gell-like state) works rather well.

for the snow in his hair, i\'d coat the hair (or anything else) with varnish and then sprinkle or blow snow effect on it.
For the icicles, the methods described would work well in my opinion, you could always cut a rod of clear plastic into a point.
Or take a hair or a length of fishing line and build op layers of water effect or varnish or something.

Well if you\'re going to do that, for god\'s sake wear a nose and mouth mask and don\'t take it off until the area\'s been cleaned down properly.

easiest for snow is micro ballons and pva, just mix it into a toothpaste consistancy.
apply in thin layers letting each layer dry.
by loading a brush with water you can thin down certain spots before it sets allowing groundwork to poke through representing melting snow.
just let each layer set as this allows you to build up a more realistic finish.
lastly, for any areas that you want a fresh untouched snow look then add a thin layer and then sprinkle micro balloons onto it.
for an icy finish, as matt suggested, crushed up glass is effective.
for icicles you can use water effects and tease it as it sets but for anybody who can\'t be arsed faffing with that (like me!) then give jeff (dragonforge design) a shout as he does plastic icicles, just cut off the strip and glue in place (so easy it could have been made by siflor!)

for icicles i use small lengths of necklace \"wire\", it\'s a clear plastic thread, so when you apply the water effects to them they don\'t show up
my method:
-take a toothpick and drill 3-4 holes the same diameter as the wire
-glue the wire into the holes
-apply the water effect to the wire to build up your icicle (thin coats dry quicker) to the size you want

you can also use the same method for making drool, just thin the WE a lot so it runs down the the wire and blobs at the bottom, you can also add slightly thicker blobs at random intervals along the drool

For icicles I used woodland scenics water effects and for ths snow, I used woodland scenics snow mixed with PVA glue.

Thanks. CMON has been blocked at work so I can\'t get on during the day and to be honest I also haven\'t had much to post on the mini painting front. Other hobbies have taken up my time (wildlife photography, 2-d artwork, diving etc.) But I\'ve finally finished one rather large project (GDOC) and have recently started a wolfen Devourer (Managarm and hyena) having got inspired on a recent holiday to Botswana.
