Hi guys,

Any tips for holding minis so that I don't rub off paint during the painting process??

Cheers

Just don't super glue it to your hand unless you have a week to wait for it to come off again ;)

I'm using these: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1602898
Very satisfied. The design includes an additional top-plate (the one with the wave-shape) which can rotate and is fixed via magnets. Working perfect even for metal-minis, the magnets are strong as ace. It also can be hold upside-down very comfortably. And it's cheap (I printed mine via 3dhubs.com). ;) I'm having 5 atm, but I guess I'll print some more magnet-plates to get more minis on. Actually one holder and a few magnet-plates would do the job too, but the less I need switching, the easier it is to paint full squads. I even prefer this version over the one from Kickstarter. I left off the bottom-plate, so I can put my thumb in there :D

Acetone helps removing super-glue in case it's annoying you too much :p

I will super glue them to a wine cork. Cheap. Easy. Effective.
Or, I sometimes use a pin vice.
Or, sometimes just the base.

The best and most effective solution to keep paint from rubbing off whilst painting is to keep your hands clean and oil-free.
I wash my hands once an hour or so, and don't eat, snack or smoke whilst painting.
Alternately, you can wear nitrile or latex gloves while painting.

Really, it's more about keeping your hands oil-free. But, there are many solutions, some more expensive than others.
Find what's most comfortable and within your budget.

Something I found that works good, and is pretty much free is prescription pill bottles. You can blue tack just about any base to it. And if you need to paint something that is pinned just find a cork that fits in the top. Like so...

To get the cork back out just cut a notch in the plastic.
It can be a bit top heavy as well so I stuck some clay in the bottom to keep it from tipping over.

I use the cork method because it's pretty much free. ( I get my corks from wino friends). It's so easy to push pinned minis into yet provides great grip.
To provide stability when standing it upright I glue one of the many left over bases I have to the bottom of the cork. Simples!
