How do you paint jeans?

the key is texture - crosshatching, and weathering. take a gander at my attempt using these principles:

First you take a brush..........lol

I\'ve tried a couple of times and the best I can suggest is that you mix GW\'s Ultramarines Blue and Spacewolf Grey to get a faded Denim effect and then wash in ulramarines and shadow grey mix.
Isn\'t always \"perfect\" but the customer I didi it for last was impressed.

in the past, i have used a grey, normally shadow grey highlighted up with a light grey then shaded with a blue-black mix. looked ok.

I think it looks more natural and more like actual denim to use a beige colour for highlighting, instead of grey. I use VMC Ivory, but I guess Bleached Bone could work as well (maybe with a dash of white added to it).

Yeah I like using off-whites like Ivory, GW rotting Flesh or Fortress Grey work as well .. I usually Base GW ultra and shadow mix.Although recent experiments with GW foundation paints throwing up some interesting colours.. Necron abyss and Chardon Granite..... as Funnymouth says the texturing is as important if not more important than the colours....

I wonder... going with funnymouth\'s suggestion on cross hatching... could you do some scrape-back?

Maybe I got the name wrong, but after the blue base coat, take a knife (or a sculpting tool, since the knife may be too sharp) and etch some light lines in the paint. Normally, this would be the end of the scrap-back as the white underneath would show. But, I\'d then run over a light blue/off white wash to fill in the lines. Then do the regular fading stuff.

It may also just be a case where the highlights on the edges of the pant seams needs to be really kicked up high. I know all my jeans seem to have that on the curvy parts of the seams.
