How have you improved over the years?

A very kind comment from Dragonsreach in a recent thread, (cheers mate the cheques in the post), about how myself and 10 ball have come along since our first efforts made me think er yeah how have I come along? Indeed how have we all come along from our first offerings to cmon? So here is the first effort that graced the gallery of CMON from my fair hand and one of the latest to be posted. It would be cool to see how all you lot have come along as well. http://www.coolminiornot.com/289742 and now http://www.coolminiornot.com/335815

Thread closed. Haha.
No, really - I'm not sure if it's fair to measure from when I started painting altogether, or just from when I returned a few years ago.
At any rate, here's what I have:
One of my first ever:

I read what DR posted and could not agree more. It is so nice to see so many people improving with the help of their peers. Tryst is another that I think is improving with each figure (if I could just get him to pull out one of those Andrea pinups).

Overall, I feel I've improved in the... overall painting of my miniatures. Given my condition, it's very easy for me to spend hours on a tiny little part to make sure it's 100%.. but you do that over and over, you forget what the whole figure looks like. I also feel I've achieved an almost "sixth sense" when it come to blending and paint thinning. I can tell what will flow nice and what will be gummy by seeing how the paint dabs off on a paper towel. Unfortunately, I don't have any examples of my very first couple of tries at painting.. because they were horrid. I was using enamels at the time and had put like and inch of primer and sealer on them. I do have an example when I was about a year in:

-Yeah, no idea where the top of this went.. more reason to pin your minis!

And now, compare with one I did just a month ago:

Pretty obvious some techniques sunk in, right? Of course, I am no where near happy with what I do. I always want to push myself further and do more projects. That's why currently I'm trying my hand at sculpting and though (again) I'm not content with the results, I've seen worse done by "professional" companies... I can't remember where it was, but some company was trying to do what looked like pottery based minis.. ick.. Anyhoo. I think I've grown a lot and I was sure glad to find like-minded people here at CMON for feedback!

Mephiston is not bad Tommie, but every time I think of your best minis I see the NMM-Sanguinary guard and the "One Shot" before my eyes.

Its a debatable and opinion based subject choosing which is the 'better' piece.

I chose Mephiston not because of my opinion on 'best' but the fact that this piece demonstrates
the full range of abilities I have developed since joining CMON.

Have I improved .....hell yeah

Hello there , it's been quite a while since I posted anything at all . Actually I was very despondent with my painting and some of the savage replies to my efforts that I didn't and wouldn't post at all . However I've improved a awful lot .

Some people have some pretty darned good "then's"!

Mine is a little different since I originally painted as a kid, but only recently returned to this hobby as an adult 20 years later.

These were some of the last minis I painted as a kid. I was just starting to use these things called "washes" and "drybrushing". But some parts, like the skin were still painted completely flat.

And this is "now". It's the third mini I've been painting since returning to the hobby (still a WIP, though). Just having access to painting tutorials, feedback, etc, has made a huge difference.
