How long do you spend on a figure?

Just worked it out, On painting alone for the 40K single mini entry for UKGD 24+ hours.
I can\'t even begin to work out the hours for green stuff conversion. (In excess of 20 easily).

But if you want to measure the amount of time over the amount painted then be my guest. it\'s a bit pointless really as we all paint at different speeds and for differing purposes.

I spend a stupid amount of time on my minis. I have idiotic mood swings, which doesn\'t help me keep my concentration. I wouldn\'t worry about how long you take on any mini - you have forever, well it seems like it, and as long as the mini looks good to you, then the time is right. :)

@griffo I use alcohol to smooth out my mood swings
@ebbon do you still thin your paints and do you get better effects by dipping it in two different color. Must give it a try sometime

I would say that a good quality mini ..normal size with nothing crazy (like a freehand of the Mona Lisa) would take about 8 full hours of non stop painting. I would say that for table top 3-4 hours to have something that looks clean.

Though larger mini or using a new tech ect. can take much longer.

thats a hard question to ask but i would normally spend about 3 hours on a table top mini, but you have got to take into account about how good you want it painted and how large/small the model may be

a few hours for tabletop. not that i game but if i\'m just seeing what something would look like. normally spend about 6 hours though. i, also, have the attention span of a gnat and i would be happy if in that timei got results like spacemunkie (you git!). as a result i have a few ok minis and loads of unfinished ones with good bits!

@ritual - if you cant win a demon, there is something wrong with the world. seriously

I really should figure out how much time I spend on my minis, since I do sell them and it would be nice to know how much a make per hour. :D

But honestly, I don\'t worry too much about how much time I spend on a mini. I do this for fun and to relax; if I started keeping track of the time I spent and figured how much I was making per hour, it would be too much like work.

i could do a whole blood bowl team in one day. the only reason i can do this is because i suck at small details like blending and the such, so i dont attempt it very often.

When I first started, I\'d take 8-12 hours, I did a snotling in about 6 hours once early on. Now it\'s between 15-30 hours for painting and post-painting base work on a fig, depending on how much detail (areas requiring different colours as much or more than fiddliness) and if they\'ve got a familiar/book/whathaveyou as part of the scene.

I paint for quality, but I think I wouldn\'t be all that much faster if I didn\'t. I\'d really like to learn to paint faster, and it frustrates me that I don\'t. I\'d like to do a warband for Warlord some day and play that a bit, and I\'ve also got some board games that come with figs I\'d like to paint to spice up their play - things I\'d like to be able to do quickly accepting that they aren\'t going to be stunning or anything. (Though honestly, a lot of the stuff that did take me forever is hardly stunning. ;))

I think part of it is just having a default slow painting speed, and part of it is just doing a base coat on a large area of a fig can take me an hour or more depending on how many coats that colour takes and how careful I have to be about surrounding areas.

Generally i spend about 6 hours per figure, add another 3 on if its mounted. Of late ive very rarely taken a figure to completion but im averaging it out here.

When i hear about people who spend double or triple figures on a miniature i envy their patience, because even with autism i dont think i could paint that long without throwing the model against the walllol
