How many paint brushes do you have? (yes, another silly questionnaire post)

I was taking stock of my brushes... and realized it may be a funny little thing to post online.

Let\'s see how insane I am :)

I have, so far:

Size Brand Style #
10/0 ABS 3 Regular 2
2 Escoda Regular 1
4/0 Escoda Regular 1
5/0 Escoda Regular 2
0 Escoda Regular 1
8 Escoda Regular 1
0 Kappel Miniature 1
2 Kappel Miniature 1
000 Kappel Miniature 1
1 Kappel Miniature 1
00 Kappel Miniature 1
10/0 Lion Taklon Regular 1
0 Lion Taklon Regular 1
00 W&N Series 7 Miniature 2
1 W&N Series 7 Miniature 1
0 W&N Series 7 Miniature 1
3 W&N Series 7 Regular 1
0 W&N Series 7 Regular 1
00 W&N Series 7 Regular 1

(I have a few more larger brushes that I don\'t really use for anything)

I\'m now trying to find a nice brush case with slotted holders or something to protect them :D

I haven\'t even touched most of the ones above...

Also looking at some more nice brushes...maybe series 7, incase the ones I have get any issues... :D (yes, I am obsessed with getting new brushes)

Note: I also read recently, that most brush makers don\'t get sable from traders who kill Kolinsky weazels (yay!) but instead, get the hairs from places that cut the hairs from the tails, have it grow back, etc. (like farms almost)

How do we find out if W&N does this as well or if they get them from places that kill them?

I have maybe 25 brushes but most are duplicates of each other. I won\'t list them all but I use a lot of 10/0 flat brushes like filberts and angles brushes. I keep several because, frankly, I can\'t pass up a good brush when I\'m in the store. I seem to buy a new brush every time I\'m there.

I\'ve got 1 1, 1 0, 1 00, 1 000 all revell sable president series. Also about 20 other brushes that are various sizes for drybrushing and other things.

On a note for storage and transport, you know the tubes you get Smarties in and stuff for christmas they do a bang on job for keeping your brushes together and safe on journeys!!!

i have around 50.

but i only use three or four.

i still use my reaper 18/0 green handle brush that i bought 2 years ago. when i first started painting i thought the smaller the brush the better. i quickly found out that was wrong. i also have a few vallejo\'s and a slew of gw fine detail brushes but find they wear out in about 2 weeks.

other than that, i just cant throw things away.

I keep about 15 brushes in my \"kit\" (a tackle box I drag around with me everywhere) but I only commonly use a few of them.

W&Ns7 sizes 0 and 00
a W&Ns7 size 0 that I accidentally superglued, for sloppy painting
a Citadel regular and fine detail brush... for basecoating
a Citadel small and large drybrush
some large, brand unknown brush for painting bases and what-not

The rest are 10/0 liners and huge, fuzzy brushes and tiny sable things, useful maybe for ink lines but not paint with binder.

5, chucked all my other\'s away.

All W&N Series 7\'s

4 (Rarely ever use this. Only for washes and larger pieces)
2
1
0 (Main brush, use it 90% of the time)
0 (Same as above but for metallics)
00

Since I bought these I have never had to get another brush, just kept good care of these. And they are all as good as new.

More than I want to count..

But I have three that I think are the best made and all I use right now.

Raphael 8404\'s
#1, 0 and 000

Thats it.. you dont need more than this people...

Why oh why did you have to ask that question???

Here at home I have 52 brushes, yes I was sad enough to count them when I read this topic:(

Onboard ship I probably have another 15 or 20 as I run two sets of painting stuff so I don\'t have to take everything back and forth with me all the time...see there is a method in my madness :D

Out of all these though I use about 4 or 5 the rest I either don\'t like or are spares.

Just don\'t ask how many pots of paint I have there is no way I am going to count that lot.

Hmm, I threw a dozen or so old brushes out the other week. I still have a lot more, acrylic and sable, ranging from size 0000 to a 2\" brush.

I have a bunch of brushes, maybe about 35 or so. Many, as Liz said, are repeats of the same brush. Most are Loew and Cornell watercolor liners and script liners ranging from 2 to 18/0. Also among my favorites are my Vallejo kolinsky Sables, 0, 3/0, and 10/0. I also have many larger brushes from my college days that are still in good shape (Huzzah for Mane and Tail conditioner).

I have one brush, which I\'ve had for about 1.5 years. It\'s a W&N Series 12 size 0

JUST one?! Bill, you and I can be buds! lol I\'ve only got about 2 that I can still use to maximum effect (1 Raphael, 1 W&N7). Then I have a synthetic brush that is starting to detoriate very quickly, which is unfortunate because I loved it!

i only really use three brushes...
gw large
gw standard
gw fine detail
i may be one of the last cats that paints with regular ol\' gw brushes...they are sable, and work good, but don\'t last long...i replace the fine detail about every 6 months...the standard and large hold up longer, i replace \'em about once a year...

cheers

I\'ve got around 50.
I buy a whole bunch of the ones I use regularly, and have others on hand
of different sizes for different things.

Typically, the ones I use will last me about 4-5 months.

I\'d love to find a place that sells good W&N brushes around here.

I have about ten or so assorted GW brushes. Did I pay for a single one? No :D

I had them all when I worked there so they must be getting on for 2 years old by now. Most are still in reasonable shape too. Except for maybe the sad old glue brush but he does his job.

When these eventually give up the ghost I think I\'m going to look into getting some W&N s7 brushes as there\'s a shop nearby that does them quite cheap.

I have about 30 or so. I stock up on them when they are on sale and then work my way through them and graduate them to new duties as the bristles start to freak out.
