How many unique figures in each box?

That's correct. The original zombicide game came with 1 fatty sculpt, a pair of runners and a few walkers, all repeated to pad out several trays. That method was repeated in ensuing expansions, with different sculpts. Those expansions, in addition to 1fatty/2runners/1/2 dozen walkers of either toxic or berserk variants also provided a few extra standard fatty/runner/walker sculpts too.

The Zombivor set could prove nifty. All unique sculpts, they're zombified versions of what were once heroes.
The VIP set has but 5 different sculpts. Each repeated 4 times. Set#1 has a mascot in hotdog outfit, a nurse, a pimp, a diner cook and a trenchcoated goth.

Walk of the Dead 1 has eight different sculpts, with three of each. I think these are the same as in Season 1. WotD 2 has four sculpts only found in that box - if I remember correctly, the remaining four sculpts are duplicates from box 1, but I might remember wrong.
Edit: Found a picture of the box 2 contents. Seems to be eight sculpts, all of them different from box 1, and three of each. So if you get both, you'll have 16 x 3 zombies. That said, the VIP zombies are mucho cool.

Walk of the dead 1 has 8 sculpts with 3 copies of each
WoD 2 has 8 sculpts of which 5 are same as Prison box (2 runners, 3 walkers) and 3 unique sculpts (fatty and 2 walkers)
Toxic and Angry boxes also have 8 sculpts each (5 same as Mall and Prison figs, 3 unique to box)
