I must say I refrained from posting on the competition thread in case I annoyed anyone, but I pissed myself when I saw that figure lol It is a classic case of idea meltdown, someone desperately trying to think of a concept but giving up and watching the Discovery channel only to find a programme about sharks. The sculptor must have jumped up and had a \"Eureka!\" moment before running off to sculpt what appears to be a shark shitting out human legs or a guy struggling into a shark outfit for a fancy-dress party lol

@Marineboy - I\'m not sure if your question was what did I use to file or fill - so I\'ll answer both questions. Grumb has a couple of sets of different files. One set is a Nicholson miniature set, the other (more often used) doesn\'t have a name on it. It\'s got a round file that\'s awesome.

For filling I used green stuff. I was really worried about using it (could I do it right?), but it came out ok. Actually, I\'ve done so much caulking from house remodels that I jammed on the green stuff! It really looks good if I say so myself. Grumb\'s trying to talk me into doing all his green stuff work from now on! Hope that helps.

(Worked on the base yesterday - still haven\'t started on mini yet. Grumb made me a great painting travel kit - he has one just like it. So I think I may sit by the pool next week in FL and work on it. )

I just started working with it last year after 25 years of painting! I think you might be shooting to high this first time around. Just grab something simple and slap some paint on it. I didn\'t even clean up my minis the first ten years. You can see ever casting line. (OK you gits, you can stop laughing now). lol

You haven\'t painted your first mini and you have a paint traveling kit?! That is like soooo unfair!

I have to agree with you Rev, I posted to that thread that I didn\'t have enough time to finish it. But truth be told, I have finished minis in one night when inspired (very very rarely). I saw the piece, and almost bought it because it was a new Reaper. I own about 60% of their line. Then I though \"What the hell am I gonna do with this thing?\" I guess its cool in its own way, but it just didn\'t grab me.

@Markus - working with greenstuff isn\'t that bad. I just had to fill in a bad hole on his dorsal fin and I moved his arm to another position so I had to fill in around the joint between his arm and shoulder - if weresharks have shoulders! It really wasn\'t that big of a deal. It\'s not like I\'m sculpting anything (although I would like to try that after I get more experience).

@Tylith - you better do a good job on that garage. We\'re going to be voting on it! lol Actually, I hope we get to meet you next weekend, but if we don\'t have a good time gaming without us!

True that. But you can\'t force inspiration. It\'s either there or it isn\'t.

I don\'t know how commission guys/gals ever finish anything. I have enough trouble working on stuff I love, without having to work on stuff I could give two $hits about. More power to them.

Marine boy was pretty spot on. I\'ve got a pretty good idea what to do with the mini, my attitude just sucks at the moment and I don\'t WANT to paint., especially not that mini.

I can look at mini after mini, but then you see one and BAM you\'ve got this idea in your head and you want to paint it. That\'s already happened to me a number of times.

Maybe that\'s the difference between really good painters and great painters. Really good painters paint well technically, and there stuff looks fabulous, but great painters have that inspiration and give their minis character and their stuff looks awesome. Of course, I could just be blowing smoke outta my :moon: too!

It\'s not that cool IMO...

But as a VIZ fan, I tend to see all sharks now as \'pathetic\' which makes said sculpt even funnier.

Another post which will mean zilch to non-UK - non VIZ fans. Sorry...

I think that there are some minis that I\'ve seen that just grab me and I have to paint them. Some of Werner Klocke and Steve Buddles stuff comes to mind. A lot of the painting I\'ve done over the last year has been minis for other people which they chose. Sometimes its hard to get motivated to do those. You just kind of get through them....

But I agree with RedDawn, every once in a while you see a mini that sparks an idea and you\'re off and running. When we saw the Wereshark mini, it wasn\'t the mini itself that got us going, but the flow of ideas of what to do with the mini had us laughing for 10 minutes...
