I put loads of time in on my figures and try to paint to the best of my ability on all of the minis that I paint. That said - with a 5 year old daughter who takes up quite a lot of my time it does take me a while to finish models. I guess it's typically around 40 hours per figure. Things like Imperial commisars are a bit quicker as they are a simpler paintjob - i.e. mostly shades of black. Orks tend to take a bit longer as I put lots of grit, scratches and wear and tear into the paint job that I don't do on others. I sometimes struggle with patches of colour / details where I am unsure of what to do or what colour will work best. That can sometimes drag and be a right pain - especially when I do it one way, look at the results and it's like 'nope' so then I have to go back and change it.
And to clarify the 40 hours I stated doesn't include time spent cleaning up the mini or making the base (something else that I find difficult at times).
I have enough perseverance and patience that I don't start a new project until I've finished the current one, because I know that I'll never finish anything if I don't. It can sometimes be hard to do things that way - my large scale Coteaz figure a point in case as that took the better part of a year from starting with chopping up the FW kit to finishing off the paint job.
But the end result is that I am happy with everything that I have finished and it's nice to go and look at my collection and see the wonderful things that I have created. That's what makes it worthwhile.
