Hey all currently doing a conversion to give swooping hawk exarch web of skulls and shuriken pistol, the body of the model is this:

newimage.asp

I have cut away the gun, but as it is nestled in his arm I now have a rough area to clean up, question is in your experience would you cut back to where his arm is and then model the thin armour plates on, or is it easier to cut past that point and model some arm and the plates, hence working with a more reasonable size of green stuff?

I await your comments

Steve: It looks as if that\'s going to be a pretty impressive amount of work.
One question, which arm for which weapon?
Because that may influence the amount of work you need to do.

I\'d personally try to keep it to the minumum of sculpting, but that\'s for two reasons:-
1) I\'m lazy
2) I\'m garbage at sculpting.
:D

I hope I understand your question right. My advice:

- keep as much of the arm as it possible since this will be the best support for the sculpting work (better that a wire inserted in the remainder of the arm).
- if needed you can thin down the arm where you need to sculpt so you have more putty volume to play with.

Er, what did you intend with the skulls?

Two tips:
- putty with more yellow than blue is stickier. You can mix this up to stick putty to the metal.
- armour and other large smooth surfaces are easier to do when the putty is a little cured. That is, apply, roughshape and make finer detail you need, wait say 10 minutes, smooth the armour plates.

Does that help?

It does, wish I had a camera that was good enough to show what I have done, I have removed the weapon and left the right arm, going to hold the pistol in that arm, the web of skulls I was planning on hanging of the belt, because, well its much easier that way. The left hand (not shown) I was going to leave alone.

Currently the right arm is fully intact, just a bit messy, wasnt sure if i should clean at this point or thin the arm down and build it up, seems the thin down idea has support
