Sarcasm aside this is question no-one but you can answer. How long will it take you to prepare, assemble, and paint the figures? and what level of painting to apply to them? It is simply a matter of Time Taken X Labour charge per hour.

what dragon said. ask yourself what level these minis will be painted, then ask yourself what you feel is humane to charge(perhour), and how long it will take. not allways the easiest task, but you´d want to avoid working for 2 dollars an hour.

A small fortune! Lol.

If you are not overly close to the people perhaps around £10 per hour if you are good for the painting and a lesser amount for clean up and assembly. Adjust that £10 per hour according to the level the client wishes and your own skill level. What is your time worth? You could charge less for friends if you are so inclined.

One way to check is to look on Ebay and find a figure/set that is comparable to your skill and see what it goes for. That's the sort of price that the general public will pay for it at the moment. Bear in mind that with the recession and all the amount of spare cash that people have has gone down quite a lot in the last year or so.
If you are going at it from a commission point of view - charge what you would like to be paid but be prepared to negotiate down if you really want to do the job, or you need the money.

Tough choices need to be made for units and large numbers I think. 35 minis multiplied by whatever you can charge will still rely on the persons wallet having enough money. Do you need money or can you stand your ground? I ask because even at the insanely low price of £10 a mini (and i'm not suggesting this price!) you are still asking for £350 of someones money which is no small number... even £20 a mini is low and that's £700!

The time it will take to make the set "worth" £700 to someone will, I suspect, be massive so the way to look at it is to ask yourself:

How can I speed up my painting by batching minis up... air brushing, base colours, not agreeing to do fancy bases for the minis and freehand that will eat my time away.
Will I enjoy painting them and if so, can I offset the price by being happy to paint them?
Can I get the person who wants them painted to do any of the work?
How much will the person who wants them painted be able to sustain in terms of cost?

All I know is that I asked someone to paint a blood bowl team for me ages ago and they started off ok but were defeated by the scale of the task and the realisation that painting units is as much of a skill as painting super fancy stuff. Sure you won't get 9.8 CMON scores for units but if you can bust out a totally solid squad a night, you have great talent!

I have this argument with myself with every commission. I have a basic price formula on my website but when I add the commission together I end up thinking "I wouldn't pay that much for someone to paint my minis." That's probably because I paint. I end up cutting the price down a little (depending on what I'm doing) and feel okay about the price. When I'm about in the middle of a commission, I start to think that I need to stick to my guns and keep the original, higher price. Things rarely ever go as nicely as I think they will and I end up spending more time than I originally estimated.

Take a moment and compare websites and prices that are around your level, take in what you like about the pricing structures and what you don't, and go from there. In my experience, my first customers helped me come up with my initial pricing structure by and it's been evolving since then.

it based on how good you are. iv seen a single space hulk terminator sell for 200+ on ebay, on cmon it's rating was something like 8.5 i believe.

and those models are just stuffed full of detail, i wouldnt consider touching it for less than 60 bucks per terminator. for guys like gideon and lorenzo, those guys are atleast a 100 dollar bill. i was talking to someone else who had the space hulk terminators painted to a high standard - he told me it took him 14 hours per model. too many details. dont sell yourself short.

And don't be afraid to start high. You can always negotiate down if they're unhappy...you can't negotiate up at a later date if you get unhappy.

Try bartering instead, maybe they have some used xbox games they don't want or something. Are you friends with this person? Do you think you may become friends? I recently painted dreadfleet for a local store at far to cheap a price, but I wanted to paint those ships and I didn't want to buy them. When they saw it they decided to give me even more store credit plus im building a good relationship with the store. Sometimes value isn't always measured in $$$.
