How rare is rare?

Are you trying to figure out how much it'd be worth? By rarity/scarcity do you mean value based on demand?

Ehhh....I'd say not yet. Time will make it rare.
A lot of the limited edition runs I see are around 500. As people lose those models, or break them, and the numbers dwindle down from 500 to something lower it will become rare. Rare in my mind is the exceptionally hard to find, and I'd peg that at 100 or less. (but that's subjective)
Twenty years from now, I'd bet that very few of those are still unpainted and in mint condition. That in my mind will be rare.

Rarity and scarcity are not necessarily the same thing. To my mind rarity is the number of said item that is still "out there" so to speak. Scarcity is the number of said item that are available to buy. An item may be slighty rare - 500 produced ( or limited if you like) but if it is so popular that no-one wants to part with it then its scarcity is high - therefore the ones that are for sale will fetch a premium.
To my mind scarcity is more important as it is more likely to affect the price something will sell for.

Well you would have a hard time getting one of those. I know I would expect to pay serious money for that model tbh. released in 1999 and very rarely shows up on E-bay so keep hold of it abit long but if you do put up for sale do stick a reserve on it.

It was a thought example. I know that the specific mini in question IS very rare, and I hold no hopes to ever get one.

quite ok, figured I was just a misunderstanding. Yeah Iwould love to have one of those aswell, and I have the money to buy it now, butI dont feel good about spending THAT much money on a "piece og metal and some papers"

lol, none taken. Actually this mini belonged to my son and he has recently given this and all his whfb, necromunda, mordheim, stuff to me. As if I haven't got enough of a lead mountain already to paint, actually my other two sons and daughter have done the same...
Some of it will HAVE to go because I either don't actually like it or can see that I'll never be bothered to paint it. Got enough of my own to keep me busy for years.
