How To: Desert or arid earth?

Okay, so I check the articles already and no help there. There is one article about making easy desert bases, it\'s nice but not what I\'m looking for.

Does anyone know a way to make a base that looks like the images shown below, or capture that sort of effect? Or, do you know of any mini\'s here on the site (6+ scores please) that have a base effect similar to those shown below?

Help me hu? ???

put i thin layer of greenstuff on your base texture in with a rough rock or something simular then score the lines in with a sculpting tool, its also on gw site under parched desert plains

Plaster\'s much easier, and will score more realistically once dried...

I just voted on a mini that had exactly what you wanted. It was a Warmachine mounted unit. Hitting back in the other window but so far not finding it.

Man CMON seems to be running like crap again, it\'s been over a minute and the page still hasn\'t loaded....

If you look at other auctions by the same painter, he used a similar basing style on the rest of his Warmachine minis.

I have a lot of good stuff to work from here. I like the GW tutorial a lot. I\'m not totally sure if my sculpting skills are up for that, but I think I can make that work.

Any other ideas, suggestions or input are very welcome. Including more mini picks. Thanks for your DaN.

Thanks for the link Shawn. Are these bases caps or just standard GW rounds? I need Dark Age style rounded bases... the ones with the tappered edges. Do you have those?

Not quite clear on the question (I\'m not familiar with Dark Age style bases) The bases I used when I made these were just regular bases - GW?. They are regular sized and the edges are beveled, not straight up and down.

I am quite sure there is an article around somewhere on Razheem the Insane from Rackham on a large cracked-earth base. It\'s quite old though, from when the miniature first was released. The base looked really good. I\'ve looked around, but haven\'t been able to find it for you, sorry. Maybe someone else knows what I\'m talking about...


edit: this http://www.dragonbloodminis.com/lonebrushman/dry_lake_bed.htm is not what I was looking for, but might be useful, the tutorial I was searching for produced a look more to my taste.

While that piece looks great, it\'s a bit more work than I want to put in on 20+ bases for my Dark Age Skarrd faction.
