How to do weathering on this? For Death korp of Krieg

I found this colour scheme on the GW website, it's the one called "Chemical wasteland" bottom left in the link:

I'm going to use that scheme for my death korp of krieg but I'd like them to look grimy and battle worn.

I suppose I could do a lot of metallic chips and scratches on the vehicles but I also want "normal" weathering. Like mud splashes, paint chips and the like.

Any suggestions on how to do this?

Next troublespot is the infantry: imagine the greatcoats having that brown/reddish colour, any suggestions on how to highlight that?

The bases: which kind of base would best display the infantry, keeping in mind that it's supposed to be a chemical wasteland as I find something like a grey city fight base to be a little too dull.

Not sure about that, but I really like the look of the "snow" weathering in that same article. I may have to give that a shot and see how it goes. Sorry I can't help you, but thanks for the link!

for the mud, i would suggest using the snow technique but with brown paint. start with a lightish one and get darker towards the base, remember it will be darkest where it is thickest (and therefore still wet). just flick the paint on (thinned) with an old tooth brush. practice on card first to get the splatter right

as for the chips and scratches, a good way to get a random look is to use ripped blister foam. dab the scratches on that way. less is more

prophecy may be onto something with the snow effect, with the main colors of your troop being earth tones the whites of the snow might help break up the reddish browns that are going to be so prevelent... as well as some nice pools of vibrant toxic sludge. As for weathering the armored units rust is going to be hard to show with that color scheme but paint chips will rocks tho (prefer the masking fluid approach to wear on paints skelettes (I think i'm butchering his name) did a quick lil tut here tho not sure how practical that is for big things worked great on a defdread I just finished but haven't done anything larger. One thing that may be interesting to do tho in conjunction with the winter effect is a white wash effect on your armor to simulate the troops converting their armor to a more suitable camo scheme for short periods. I tried finding a pic of troops from ww2 painting their tank with white paint they had foraged that showed the effect great, but a quick search for winter camo tanks ww2 will give plenty of examples.

Not to jack the thread, but would this same technique work for infantry, or would I have to tweak it somehow? Maybe just around the boots?

You could get some Tamiya or Vallejo 'Smoke' It's got a real dark earthy rust tone and has a ton of texture to it. It's fun stuff. You can highlight it, going up with a maroon then an umber then an orange then yellow and it would look a lot like the chemical waste one.
