Patience I guess....

Is it the answer? Begging folks in here for votes might help :D

Please?

How NOT to get comments

I\'d just like to add that a surefire way to get me to NOT comment on your work, is to not comment on it yourself. If the person who created and posted a work can\'t be bothered to add at least a couple of lines in the description area under their creation, why should I bother commenting ???
To me posting an image and not at least telling us a little something about it is only a half-step above \"another mini\"

Yes guys you are right about the good comments.
I think I am meaning that the obvious arse kissers annoy me,but that is my opinion.

I love the comments..and pay attention to them all
I had the water dragon up and Darkstar left a comment that I followed up than reposted the work the result was so much improved.
I only learned from comments at first cause I had never been on any forum and it was very intimidating to me. I also tend to be too blunt even when I try to filter.
of late I have reposted a red dragon you all helped me with I had too large of base material and not enough highlights... now I changed bases did highlight every scale by hand and darn what a difference and the scores are so much higher but the real change is that items, things I have to much tunnel vision to see, you all pick out right away. It is Like having a good friend to sort out problems.

I agree with the majority here (for a change). Comments are where I improve from. Either the ones left on the pics or the ones I beg on the other forum.

If you really want help with a mini, post a WIP on the \"discuss submissions\" forum or the \"painting and conversions\" forum. There are several memebers here that are most helpful in those areas.

Unfortunately (or not), these are the same people that will leave comments on a pic. Un- because you hear from the same people. Fortuneately because this is the best group of people to help.

Hehe, the Water Dragon did look alot better after didn\'t it? I love that story :D

I used to belong to a forum where the topic was digital art. I\'m not into it so much anymore so I dont\' go there, but the general rule of thumb about leaving comments on other\'s art was this...

221 welcome.

What that meant was if you were going to comment about a piece, then you would customarily leave a comment of 2 things you liked, 2 things you could add constructive criticism about, and 1 thing you disliked.

That way there was always a point to comment and not just fanboy tooshy tounging.

Believe me, there was a reason to check back and see what other artists had said about your work. You always got another viewpoint on your piece...so helpful. As TAB said, some of us develop a sense of Tunnel Vision when painting, and IMHO comments sometimes help to point out obvious things we\'ve overlooked.

There have been alot of good points in this thread. One that I\'ll take to heart is Dauber\'s mention of those who don\'t post their own comments don\'t deserve to be commented on...

I rarely leave comments on my submissions...I think I will at least say something about it. Usually if there is a conversion, I mention it, but usually I let the picture speak for it self as this is such a visual medium.

One last thing, as CMON is such a multicultural and multinational site, I think alot of the time peeps are afraid to leave comments for the sole sake of the language barrier, I mean, why leave a comment if the recipient doesn\'t speak your language? CMON II should maybe have an integral translation frame or something for comments. Just a thought.

I have to say that comments are way better in my opinion then the votes. Votes will never make me improve or tell me what people think about my work. Did that personne vote in a rush barely looking at the mini or did she take time to all the details ? I know that on my latest mini someone gave me a 5, well I really don\'t mind but it would have been a lot better if that personne had explained to me why. That why I\'v recently taken to haunting the forum for improvement advice and posting almost all my WIP. It worked great but not everybody spends time on the forum and I think it would be really nice if people could just improve from their comments.
As for the \"wow\" comments I can understand how theiy are usufull in the way that they encourgae the artist. But what annoys me about them is that most people just post those because it\'s a mini by a \'famous\' painter and it dosn\'t take much thinking to do. Really constructiv comments take time, you have to look properly at the mini, find what\'s wrong with and how you think you could improve it. And I don\'t think people need 100 \'wow\' comments, just look at the most comented on piece, it\'s also the #1 in the rating !! Now I don\'t think victoria needs those comments to feel good about herself.

Hi Everybody,

I also like to see new comments on my minis. And I prefer a comment/criticism on one of my minis than a simple vote. Comments give me new ideas and help to increase my skills.

BTW, I have left a comment on your HE Commander, Boothdom.

Well, now it\'s time to carry on working.

Im going to go to your gallery boothdom.I usually take time out to vote on a few,say 20-30 before I go to whatever else I\'m looking at as I\'m new to this site.My comments have been frequent as I\'ve just found out how to leave them.I must say I sound like one of those people who lick arse, but I\'ll try to be a little more constructive now @Darkstar-your 221 idea of leaving comments seems good,a happy medium of licking and constructiveness, nice one!(Don one-Solo mafia):]

Heheh...all this talk of brown nosing is making me laugh so hard...I\'m so immature. lol:D

You see, I have a problem, whenever someone says something weird or funny sounding, I try to \"picture\" the actual event literally in my minds\' eye...the results can be hilarious sometimes. hehehe

Ok, well i\'m a newbie here so perhaps the fresh perspective might help... or perhaps not. Here goes:
The site moderaters should seriously consider archiving the really old entries, the page rate on the site is pretty slow so having to keep skipping pages is a slow process. If you take the time to vote/comment you want to know there will be someone there to recieve it. [There may well be a way to only view recently posted stuff, it\'s just not immediatley obvious]

The gallery thing has already been mentioned. I don\'t want a random picture, if i\'m in someones gallery, i\'m there because i\'m interested in their painting.

If there was a wy to look from highest ranked to lowest that would iencourage me personally to vote. I\'ll be honest, poor quality stuff bores me, i have nothing to say about it [this may sound a bit harsh, but i have my reasons...]

It may be that it\'s already possible to do some of the things i mention, but it\'s not immediatley obvious to the newcomer :(

There may also be some who feel i shouldn\'t comment as i\'ve yet to get anything posted. Fair play, i\'ll post things once i have the photography sorted out, so for now you\'ll have to take my word for it that i do have some clue what i\'m talking about. ???

Hi alleycat!

Firstly, you are entitled to an opinion whether you have posted or not. I have considerably more opinion than most and I don\'t have any miniatures posted:D

Secondly, you may have missed a few features of the \'browse gallery\' option on the main page. You can browse by artist, manufacturer, score range or a combination.

Excellent... *taps fingers*

Thats great, i\'ll go have a hunt.

My problem is being a latecomer to this intraweb deeley. I\'m not intuiative enough, i need the equivalent of big neon signs.

That said, i still think that the site could be laid out a little better.
That said, i will be subscribing shortly, more power to sites like this.
