How would you go about painting a weapon to look like its made of Ice?

I figure an extremly light blue, with pure white on all the hard edges, and it should show some of whats behind it right?

Umm, well, you mean like a spacewolf frostblade type of thing? Well that\'s been done a lot, it\'s basicly a light blue to begin with, then highlited with an almost white blue. You can do a neat criss cross effect where you streak it like drybrushing to make it look all icey. I dont know if this helps...

I tried it with this guy:

I used a series of thin whites and greys to form the shading and used several layers of a blue wash to achieve the end result

I don\'t think the transparent thing would work on a figure like this since the blade is held so far from the body. The icy effect you\'re thinking of would work better if the sword was held against the chest, a leg, in front of a banner, etc. Then you could actually have specific stuff to try and paint from the other side, whereas in this one there\'s nothing to try and copy.

I went over this in my Precious stones article:

http://www.coolminiornot.com/go.php?go=articlephp&aid=200&page=2&orderby=&levels=

it\'s towards the bottom of the page. Basically, you make white edges (or if it\'s colored, a white+color mix) and paint the inside blue, if it\'s totally clear, or colored with the objects being shown slighty lighter than in real life. Angela also has a good example on that page, too.
