How to paint Black Templars

Hi

I need some tips on how to paint Black Templars. I want to start my own Black Templar army but I would like to get some tips on how to paint them first. If anyone knows of any threads in this site or any other sites that would be helpfull.

I want to paint them up pretty fast so techniques that are easy and look good enough works. Especially the cloaks. I don\'t have a clue on how to them!

Drybrushing? You could drybrush the armor and you can give the cloaks a drybrush of a light colour and then a basecoat of thinned down red?

for cloaks, if there cream then i recomend scorched brown, bestial brown, bleached bone and thebn bleached bone and skull white(yes the paints come to quite a bit cash wise fi you havent got em, but soon youl amass an arsenal). the key is to leave each layer showing in the recesses and folds, so it steadily gets lighter towards the highpoints of the cloak where light would hit. remeber to add wwater to the paints, as thick blewached bone is the most disgusting site on earth:|~

Do any of you know a good quick way to do metal? There is quite a lot of metal on the Black Templars, I don\'t want it to be to dark because the models are already very dark. What do you think of boltgun metal as a base, then a black ink wash and then drybrush mithrill silver on there?

Sounds like you have your metal recipe. =)

One thing you may want to try if you\'re worried about how dark they are going to be is:

1) Use a wash other than black on the boltgun. Blue, red, maybe even a green or orange. Whatever you think will compliment any accents you might use on the models or basing.

2) Hit a bright highlight or two with pure white after you\'ve drybrushed/layered/whatnot your silver.

Actually, I\'m not sure what kind of bases I want. I\'ve allways liked dessert. Any tips on how to do thoose? What color should I paint on the sides and what to use as basing material?

a simple quick way is to put sand on, paint black, paint scorched brown, drybush bleached bone and add grass if you want. its not gonna win you any awards but its fast, and looks quite passable

Another thing, I\'m doing the armour black with codex grey and fortress grey as egde highlights. A guy told me to do a black glaze to make the highlighting blend together, I\'m not sure what glazing really are and how it\'s done?

quick answer, its a really thin layer of paint with a load of water in, just enough to give the water colour, and then you just slap it on

thats the holy grail of black glazing
you paint the glaze on both the armour and highlights, so insted of\" i can see a line of codex grey there and then black here\" its \"ok, so i see codex, its fading, fading, wha? wheres it gone?!\" so it looks natural and blends in. then on sharp edges like shoulder rim edges you do a very thin line of bright colour like fortress grey mixed with a bit of white, to represent light hitting sharp edges

haha, I\'ve done two so I\'m on my way. Question though, any tips on what colors to choose on the red templar logos? Don\'t want them all to be black and I\'ve seen a lot of people do red templar crosses.

Dark red, allways though that to bright colors makes the marines look unreal.

Paint em red gore
shade it withscabred, then scab red and a bit of drakangels green
for shadows glaze the shadowed area(where the light would not hit) with those colours until its drak enough, then highlight with blood red and red gore mixed, adding more blood red as you go
read this article, its about galzing and funnily enough the example giving is glazing red, its soooooooooo good
