How to pin Ayu Beat?

So I've just bought Ayu Beat, as I figured at some point in my life I need to get off my behind and enter a painting competition.
So I get Ayu Beat in the mail a few days ago and it has me in a small quandry. You see, I like to pin everything. I have big clumsy fingers and very few models would survive to completion if I didn't - especially not something as thin and flimsy as this one.
So with wrists and hair the size of my smallest drill bit (1mm), how do I strength the model to get it through my man-handling?

Well first off I'd recommend you mount the mini on a holder or handle of some kind, see if you can avoid touching the assembled piece entirely during painting.

Then get some smaller bits! I like to pin everything too, and for stuff this small you really do need at least one or two that are less than 1mm in diameter.

Hi Einion,
thanks for the the reply. In the past I've blue-tacked models to the top of old paint bottles, they never really worked but it was better than nothing. Recently I made a holder from wood (a dead branch my son found, in fact) which stands easily on its own, and it's working much better. However I still have some difficulty keeping my big paws off when doing detail towards the top of the model - like faces...

With regards to the drill bits, I've never found bits smaller than 1mm. Where do you find them?

Thanks again.

There are lots of model supplies available. Where are you located?
If in the UK most Hobbycraft stores have some Drills and modelling tools.

In the USA try http://www.micromark.com/

Oh and for pinning really small pieces, Guitar wire is really handy. get friendly with a Muso and you could end up withj free supplies.

Hi Dragonsreach,
thanks for that. I'm based in Sydney, Australia. I've never been able to find anything smaller at any of the local hardware stores, and I rarely frequent hobby stores, so I guess that's why I've had such a hard time sourcing them. I've seen them now on Micromark, so at least I know they exist. I'll see if can find something local first, as shipping time will mean I wont have time to finish Ayu for the contest. But if I can't source them here I'll definitely get them as I will use them.

Thanks again.

I want to say a few words in support of mule. Last time is really very difficult to assemble miniatures , we all still painters and collectors, but not jewelers.
