Okay, there are many threads on removing paint:

My method is to mix Pine Sol and Ammonia and soak it, it helps if you chip off a bit o paint first. Do NOT use a power tool with a metal brush, but plastic is okay (though they wear out faster).

As for manuscropts, the best way would to use a light yellowish brown like Snakebite leather and blend up with Bleached bone and use Bleached Bone/ White as a final highlight. Then just take black and make the words, they don\'t have to be perfect but have soem spaces and lines to simulate text. Then take some of your Snakebite/Bone mix, thin it down with water and glaze it over the black when it is totally dry. That\'ll make it look old and faded.
Hope this Helps!

My wife has just been helping me with stripping mini\'s and she\'s been using \'Dettol\' a well known UK disinfectant.
Leave it completely immersed for about 24 hours, then rinse under the tap and Voila a nicely cleaned mini.
(Well you might want to give it a quick scrub with an old toothbrush to clean deep seated stuff off!)
I understand that in the US Pine-Sol is a similar product.
But I was told today by a GW staff member that they have used Steradent tablets to clean mini\'s as well.
Hope this Helps.

Acetate will take all the paint off a metal figure in about 2 minutes or less, only problem is that it melts plastic about that fast too!:flip::bouncy:

I use dark brown for the writing on the old manuscrit, it looks better in my opinion. But I have to say I never tried to put a wash over some black writing so it might work to :D

I dunno as regards to stripping minis, but I thought it might be prudent to note that Dettol and Pinesol are not the same thing for other purposes. I believe Dettol is used for disinfecting wounds and utensils and such? (We used it in Home Ec on dishes.) Pinesol is a household cleaner and should not come in contact with food or human bits like skin and eyes.

Yes I have heard that Pine-Sol is based on a Pine Tree product, Dettol is good for many things and one of the best things about it cleaning paint off mini\'s is you can use the waste to clean out the drains as well. We\'ve just found out that is works well on Resin miniatures as we\'ve just stripped my T\'Char which I\'d messed up the priming.
(Tip: If the mini\'s too big to immerse in Dettol --- Baste it as you would a Christmas Turkey!. Just keep it wet, don\'t allow it to dry off and when the paint starts to Gloop rinse it under the tap. Give it a quick scrub with washing up liquid and then start basting again.) Hope this helps, I\'m working on an article on stripping (Mini\'s you lot!) should be done soon.

Hmmm..sounds good..

Never tried Dettol, but I will have to give it a bash now:D

I have spent ages bemoaning the unavailability of Pinesol in the UK, so although Dettol sounds different, it\'s gotta be worth a try...

My new Paasche Air Eraser arrived today, so hopefully (when I can find my compressor) I will be giving that a work out as a paint stripping tool:bouncy:

Let you all know how I get on...but don\'t hold your breaths:D

I don\'t know if anyone else has mentioned this, but Simple Green has worked great for me, and I think it\'s in fairly wide supply. It\'s (supposedly) non-toxic, strips minis in about 24 hours, and is safe for plastic (don\'t leave it in too long, though) and best of all, it has a minty, citrus flavour which I can\'t get enough of, no matter how many brain cells it may or may not be killin\'....Duh, me like Green much lot. It good.

Yeh, I\'ve had a lot of unsuccessful baths with minis. There was that one where there was too much bubblebath, the other thought I spent too much time with the rubber duck, and that tank just filled with water and got mold on the inside.

@Owen (nelson), I secretly love the smell of GW black primer. It has this fruity quality to it that pleases the nostrils so.

I presume its the same sort of stuff that is used in medicine. In wound care it is a foam that you can spray into cavity wounds, it sets into a sponge that is removable and has moulded to the shape of the wound.

I didn\'t realise you could get silastic foam commercially, although I can see why some people would like to have it!

For all metal mini\'s soak em\' in gas for 5 minutes and soak them in a large tub of cold water. Then rinse them and dry them. For plastic, ammonia and pinesol works well. I live in Canada and I have a bottle of Pinesol and a really old bottle of dettol in my house, maby I should try dettol out.

Like I said before, I use Acetate. Acetate is the solvent in nail polish remover, but nail polish remover only has a 5% concentration. You can buy big cans of pure acetate at most hardware stores, and it takes paint off of metal minis in less than a couple of minutes. Plastic ones, however, turn into goop! Oh, and as a side note, it feels really cool when it gets on your body because it evaporates enev quicker than alcohal and leaves a refreshing feeling afterward-Erm, I mean, it strips paint....yes...paint.:flip::bouncy:
