How to take my painting to the next level?

Ok, basically I have been painting for a pretty long time now, and I've realized that i have a problem putting a lot of time on a model, (No more than 4-5 hours for a 40k HQ.) and I'd like to Be Able to work long and hard on a single model.

I do paint armies for gaming so doing so doing something radically different on, for example a elite unit will look odd in an more speed efficiently painted army, NMM is out of the question as a NMM army would take me too long time, regarding that i tend to play horde armies, and i kind of go for the more gritty, dark, war-torn look in my armies, and would this: http://www.coolminiornot.com/article/aid/744 be a good option for next-step metals? I'll provide pics and more details when asked.

Hiya, welcome to CMON. There are a couple of prior threads that might be able to help with being able to work longer; basically it's about taking a breath and getting into the right mindset about slowing down. Here's a few of the ones I remember:

http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/showthread.php?30740-Ten-Commandments-of-painting....

There's another one I can half remember but I don't know what keyword to search for but if I think of it later I'll post the link.

If you're looking for anything on specific techniques have a look in the Sticky Thread for starters, good selection of articles and threads listed in that to get you going.
