A silly question?

If you must use GW figures how is it possible to win with a \'self-scuplted\' figure????

Where can I read a copy of entry rules?

The rules are normally published a few months ahead in White Dwarf. \"Scratch built models of your own devising\" are fine as long as they are in keeping with the GW imagery.

...not that I\'m going to enter competition anytime soon. :D That\'s a self-inflicted trauma I can live without.....at least, until I learn how to perfect my skills.:(

I dunno about self-sculpts. They are allowed, but they don\'t tend to do very well unless they are really good, like that Aragorn that got the Gold in the open last year, that was truly amazing.

In most other cases though, the fact you have sculpted it yourself seems to work against you rather than in your favour

Im only 14 but ive picked up 2 trophies in Uk YB category and had 2 finalist entries (squad and duel). I have my last year in YB this time round and im entering a couple of GD categories. I know i have little chance of winning but i hope that if i keep entering, one day i might do sumthing that impresses the judges and gets me somewhere. I think you need a lot of determination and cool ideas. I have seen a few winning entries that (in my opinion) were not pulled off too well but had a cool \"feel\" to them.
Keep trying.

Geeze, Faye, you don\'t want to go? Now I really feel like, \"What the hell are you thinking?\" lollollollollollol

Actually, I look at it this way. The point is not so much to WIN as to see what does win up close and personal. To talk to really good painters, and if I\'m lucky, get them to give me suggestions on how to improve.

I can look at winning pieces online and talk to winning painters, but it just isn\'t the same as sucking up my courage and going in person.

Besides, Dragonsreach has been coaching me about my piece. It should at least be good enough that I won\'t be embarassed by it.

And something that won\'t win at the GD will absolutely kick ass at some of the smaller model shows I plan to attend this year. :D;)

I thought one of the long time secrets to GW comps is to put fungus on the base, and by this I mean mushrooms. ;)

Thanks Faye, Airhead. It\'s and eight-hour drive from Jacksonville, FL, to Atlanta. At this point, it isn\'t winning or loosing I\'m concerned about - it\'s how well my car will make the trip. :D

But the weather forcast calls for cool (A/C doesn\'t work) dry (wipers aren\'t the best, either) conditions, so it shouldn\'t be too bad.

Darth is lucky - Macon isn\'t that far from Atlanta. Wish me luck, guys!

GD Atlanta was a BLAST!!

OK, guys, I did NOT win. Didn\'t even make first cut. But after looking at what did, I don\'t feel so bad. :)

I had an absolute BLAST. It was so much fun. I had left all my painting stuff at my hotel, figuring I\'d go back for it. But I never went back, and was busy the whole day.

They had painting and gaming stuff you could try, a big sales area, Games Worshop celebs, and of course the Golden Demon compitition to oggle.

It was a relitively small show, so there weren\'t a lot of crowds or lines to do anything, including talking to the celebs.

One thing I\'ll do differently: start working on my entry for next year NOW. :) And plan on taking my husband and son along with me. Golden Demon compitition or not, next year I\'m going back.

You\'re lucky there were no crowds, UKGD is always packed - I think it was about 6000 people last year, which makes getting to see the GD entries rather difficult:(

6,000? Holy mack! What a crowd! Obviously, if you want a good, low-crowd event, go to Atlanta. At least until it catches on big.

You actually have time to talk to the GW guests, because the line to see them isn\'t six deep. I even had lunch with Pete Haines (hope I spelled that right). I went through the line to see the other minis about four times.

If someone brought a huge army looking to play a big game, then they\'d have been disappointed, as the open play tables were largely unused. But the people who were playing were having fun, since they had plenty off room and no pressure to move on and make room for someone else.

I saw one mini in the Golden Demons that was a real hoot. The entrant had painted up an Orc 40K tank with the Stars and Bars, and had the driver sucking a Bud. I don\'t know where he got such a small Budwiser bottle; must have been on a key chain.

It was just a lot of fun, and not at all crowded.
