Well if I am not mistaken this was the weekend of Salute 2014, and if you are just one of the many who were unable to attend (like me) then you might be wanting to here some stories and see some pictures and just here about how everything went. So if you did go please feel free to let us non-cool peeps know what we missed please.

Well what you missed:-
A bloody huge queue to get in with the advanced tickets
Me getting SHOVED to one side by some ill mannered TW*T from Hemel Hempstead Wargames Club (was not impressed, seriously wanted to introduce my toe to his testicles)
Getting wonderful and extremely helpful service from Julie of NameIt nameplates.
The horror of seeing a Spanish painter just ahead of me have his figure slip out of the travelling case and land worse possible way on the table, damaged beyond usable entry. (I felt gutted for the lad!)
Meeting in no particular order, ten ball, AndyG, SkelletS (I'm just under 6 feet and those three made me feel a shrimp),Atacam & Zoe his wife, Sproket, Freakinacage, megazod_man (who promptly disappeared never to be seen by me again) Avicenna & Tooshy who gave me her usual greeting, Roman from MassiveVoodo, who surprised the Sh*t out of me by knowing who I was, the Hasslefree crew ALL OF THEM!, Demented Games (Watch out for their TWISTED kick starter after this year {they have F*** Yes minis coming out}) the McVey's, the British Independant crew and finally someone who said "Hiya you old Tart", hugged me then said "Pop round to the stall and we'll catch up"....problem is I have no idea who the hell he was!

Traders that were really fun to talk to and trade with, Freebooter, Hasslefree, Heresy, Sphere, Otherworld, Meirce, Vinge, British Independants, WestWind, Kromlech (which was fun pointing out a "plague daemon" to AndyG seeing him pick it up and move in a single step past me three others, two cabinets and a cashpoint with this fanatical " 'I'm having this look," in his eyes)

I usually grumble about the personal hygiene of gamers, but this year I encountered no smelly bastards, a couple of seemingly transparent people, but A lot of polite and well mannered Spanish and Italians.

As for the competition, well I got nowhere, ten ball got a finalist, but the standard was INTENSE. I got to speak briefly to a judge and he was saying that they'd never had to work so hard to whittle the selections down. What I could see, massive crowd of course, was really good work and no-one should feel ashamed of any of those entries! I haven't checked my pictures yet.

All in all a great day, my back's still achy and my feet feel tired and my wallet cried a lot, BUT I brought some cash home and DIDN'T have to raid an ATM machine either.

yeah i hate the moment when you unpack the minis for the competition, filling in forms etc.... didnt feel any better when the guy in front of me smashed one of his entries. it was the cover of his traveling case that fell down on in, bits and pieces everywhere on the floor... ughg... :(

Great day as usual. Nice to see my friends again. VERY disappointed that my jungle squad didnt even get a finalist place. A real kick in the teeth after all the months work :(

Salute felt like a much bigger event this year (not that it wasn’t big last year!). I thought the painting comp was tougher with more entries in general and more entrants coming over from other countries.

I was right next to the guy when his mini was smashed (literally to pieces!) by the lid of his traveling case. It was an awful moment and must have ruined his day at the least! On a more selfish note his minis were right next to mine on the table and I nearly wet myself with fright when it happened.

The day seemed to go so quickly. There was loads to see and tons of cool people to meet and chat about minis with. Getting to meet up at these events is one of the best things about them! I resisted buying too many minis. I found it pretty frustrating as there were so many beautiful minis there that I would love to paint. But I’ve got to be realistic and there’s no point buying a load of stuff I’ll never get round to painting. Having said that I did get my hands on a couple of very nice pieces from Infamy and Twisted so expect more steam punk from me in the future.

To cap it all off Jason and Chee-Chee both got first in their categories.

Hi all - yea id echo it really was a lovely day!

So many beautiful lines of minis out there but like you Sprockett - I just have to be realistic about how much time I have and what I will actually end up painting!
Having said that Im in love with Eden/Taban miniatures and picked up a couple of african models and the twins if anyone knows what im talking about.

Painting comp burnt a bit for me - my Dark Angels Squad and Diorama of many hours thought and work didn't finalist at all but my thrown together crappy DA Rhino did!!! Ill post up soon so you guys can agree with me this was the wrong way round :sidefrown:
Having said that I do feel the lighting is rubbish in those cases for all of us - its like yellow and blue lights but very little white - some of the traders cabinets were much better lit. Shame especially as my stuff is quite neutral at first look but top row cabinet did them no favours... NOT to disparage the entries that did win - As I totally agree that the standard was intense and high! It was a learning curve just looking at everyones entries, whilst at the same time a little painful lol.

I wondered if I did see you lot, but felt awkward going up to a bunch of guys sayin ' u lot coolmini people yea? ' so didnt bother :(

I think I recognised you Sproket, if you look like your avatar at all!

Also yes not so many smellies this year - is the community evolving lol!

All in all an awesome day!

It was my first miniature convention and it was a resounding success for me. Got to put a lot of faces to avatars, see a lot of amazing miniatures and buy too many. The only cool mini-er I got to meet were atacam, skel and sproket (mostly at the Twisted booth were I hung out with Angora for a bunch of the day), but I got to meet a bunch of talented painters and sculptors, and finally saw in person what sort of painting skills it takes to place in competitions like these (I need to up my game).

I looked for you dragonsearch (since I knew what you looked like), but unfortunately, there were a lot of people and I never saw you.

The companies who I was most excited about were Twisted (good things in the future for them), Sphere Wars (great game and miniatures), Drakerys (the next big French game) and Black Scorpion (had never heard of them but they had great sculpts for cheap).

It was a load of fun and hope I can head back to the Jolly Ol' England next year for it.

The only three I know I spoke to on the day was Tenball, AndyG, and skellettes didn't see DR or megazord man . I did however manage to spend the whole day chatting to people and seeing very little of the rest of the show, but was fun none the less. I have to agree the smell this year was a lot better.
Many thanks to all who stopped by to check out the stand, and for the many cool suggestions of what people would like to see.

It does become a bit of a blur after a while LOL ,as DR says the three of you together makes the rest of us feel short !

Wow. Sounds like I really missed out. I can believe the horror of crunching minis, and though surprised I can believe a somewhat odor dampened environment, but what I can't believe is Ten's jungle squad not winning. Did anyone at c'mon take home any wins?

Yep the ones I know about was Sprocket got a couple of wins as did skelettets also megazord man got a win as well. the rest of us mere mortals had to make do with finalist positions :( The quotient of fat baldy beardy blokes was significantly up which I take as a very positive sign! Clearly less money and time is being spent on unnecessary things like personal grooming and exercise and more time and money on figure painting which is as it should be!!

You git!
Today's my first day back at work and I've got a streaming cold, wondered where I could have picked that up from. Now I know.
I will have my revenge if you get to Euro-Militaire.

I had a great time at Salute! It was only my second Salute and my very first time trading.

I met loads of great people: more than I could list here and certainly more faces and names than I could remember! I met AndyG and 10ball who were fantastic enough to bring me some painted Mad Clown minis! If I am not mistaken I may have recognised SkelettetS lurking behind them?! Dragonsreach came over to say hi as did Freakinacage and Megazordman. I also had the great pleasure of meeting Tommie Soule who painted the awesome Booga which I recently won! The irony of the clown face Tommie painted on Boogas jacket was certainly not lost on us!

Despite the number of names/faces forgotten, everybody made a difference and contributed to what was a great day!
