How\'d I pick my name?

Sturm: German for assault

Halo: I was really into NIN years ago and all the CD\'s have a \'halo\' number (fans will know what I mean).

Put the two together and there you have it. I thought it sounded somewhat angelic but with a warlike connotation (assaulting angel!?).

Vidja was the name of an old RPG character of mine... a Soong-type android, in a game set in the \"Star Trek: The Next Generation\" era (sorry, Glyn... the group was not going to play Klingons with flat foreheads!)

The word means \"knowledge\" in sanskrit (sp?), so it was fitting for the insufferable positronic know-it-all... actually, I think I\'ll never find another use for my course in History of Languages, besides christening RPG characters!

Well, anyway... the nick was short and nice-sounding enough to become my Internet nick, and it\'s here to stay.
As for my avatar, I must underline the fact that I\'m no goth, I do not wear anks, black is not my favourite colour (that would be purple!), and I\'m not obsessed with death.
I just love the \"Sandman\" comics by Neil Gaiman, and find this manga rendition of Death incredibly cute.
I\'m considering the idea of exchanging it with a funny sketch of my own face, but I\'m not really sure I will...

A couple of years ago I went through a minotaur craze and I\'ve always felt quite old, even though I\'m only 28-hence Paleotaur, latin/greek \"Old Bulll\" more or less. How does mouse type? A better question would be how does he paint. :D

Well I agree with you 100% about Sandman, but on my computer, your avatar is a red cross on a white background. Perhaps it is just me?????

Well, I always wanted to have a nice alter-ego online, so I thought of a bunch of crap...fantasy, elves...dragons! But dragon was so overused, been-done, etc. etc. SO I opted for wyrmling (ie. young/baby dragon) - the \"x\" is because \"wyrmling\" was already taken numerous times, and I figured just slapping a number on it would lose it\'s \"power\"...and so, I AM WYRMLING...X!!! :p

Interesting topic...

I have not thought about this in a very long time, as the handle/nickname is second nature now.

Darkblade came about way, way back in grade 8 (1979), when I first started playing Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, that venerable, first among RPGs. Lord Ebon Darkblade, Knight Protector of the Realm, Baron de Monfort, etc. etc. lol was a Grey Elf, Ranger/Magic-User. His Arms had a raven (like mine) and a black sword, The Darkblade, an ancestral magic sword. Over the course of High School and University he became my character archetype. Each member of our gaming group had an archetypical character that they eventually became identified with. It would have ended in University, but we continued to use the nicknames in emails and in on-line computer games.

I added the AAvH, my initials much later, while trying to sign into a games server with some new friends, who didn’t know my handle but knew my initials. So I’ve combined it ever since. AAvH-Darkblade.

Hope that did bore you :D

Darkblade

Cool topic!!! :)
I wish I had some amazing story to tell you about my name here at CMON but unfortunately I don\'t. My full name is Christopher Laurence Bailey and therefore after a few attempts at other names I finally opted for my middle name.

Nick

A character I created for 40K \"Endobai - The Eagle of Heaven\" sidekick to the Laughing God.

I had finished a degree in Classics and decided write an \"epic\" poem in the style of Gilgamesh for the 40K universe. It suited the Harlies so I created a miniature (1/2 epic eldar warwalker, 1/2 eagle head from marneus calgar backpack). I sent it in and they printed it as well as all my Harlie Psy. powers. My website went from about 5 hits a week to about 5000 a day for a month.

Then my 15 minutes was up.

I still like the name, though.

Nicknames...

The story is much longer than my ability to type allows me to convey. In essence it\'s just the story of a grandmothers love for her child, a tragic mis-spelling, and a dwarven pimp... ;)

Also no animals were harmed (or ever will be) in connection with this icon, post, and avid CMoN user:innocent:

Well, since you brought it up . . . .

The other nick name I go by is Mongo - as in the character from Blazing Saddles - yes, I am large, and I got it one day when I was at a friends house and we were watching the movie and I pulled some swinging doors off the wall just as Mongo does the same walking into the saloon - the name just kind of stuck.
:innocent:

\'Course years later someone offered to tell me what Mongo ment in Spainish - to which I responded \"Stupid, right?\"

lol

aaah, the good ols days of Becca \"The Dragontaunter\" Bullebas. He was my very first D&D character, originally created for the realms, this halfling was \"Fizbanned\" to Krynn where he learned the Kender art of taunting and then used it. On dragons. Big ones. A lot. lol He has stayed with me ever since...

Uhm... well, I can only hope it\'s just you... I don\'t want people to think that I stole my avatar from the Red Cross!
I can\'t really explain the fact, though... I see cute li\'l Death clearly enough... ???

Issa because I is the Pope!

The reason reverend became by moniker is a short and quite interesting one...

If you go into the line of changing your name by Deed Poll (sp.?) and choose Reverend as the new First Name/Christian Name (or whatever), this can then be used in all correspondence in the way that you see fit, and if some buggers somewhere unwittingly think you\'re a Reverend and treat you nicely, all the better! Take what you can from life, get the best seats in planes, trains and restaurants...you see what I mean?

However, I\'ve not changed my name legally, it\'s just an exercise in thought. You know? And I dropped the capital R as it seemed too pompous.

And all credit goes to Leon West (a hip-hop artist mate of mine) who told me this wondrous thing! Mangetout, mangetout.

The dwarven pimp made me read this 8 times...
Please allow your skill in typing to improve so we can all enjoy this tragically hip story :)
