howto paint hilt and armour pipes?

Well, i painted lot of them, but there is always some problem with them. Pipes and sowrd's hilt.. some one knows a good tips?

usually i use the base color, shadowing it with a dark wash than carefully paint the hilt/pipes rings with the base color and than higlights them..i put the brush perpinduclary to the rings..but there is always a problem..

i dunno if is better to highlight it and than shadows it with a dark wash...

ideas?

Not entirely sure I understood the question. I've never seen pipes on armor.

Sword hilts (European).

Rain Guard, Cross Guard and Pommel are generally brass. (Bright brass highlighted with gold)

Grip is usually a leather (snake bite with a medium/dark brown wash)

well i refer to sci-fi armour, for example space marines tube/pipes corrugated, and sowrd's hilt that are not made up with leather.

Ah, the piping between the chunky Space Marine armour plates. Sounds like you have it right. Just the final technique wriggling away from you.

Without pics, I'd guess there's either too much paint on the brush and splurging out onto areas you don't want painting, or the paint is too wet and leaking over more of the mini, or the paint is too dry and not providing smooth coverage.

You're letting the brush do the work, perpendicular an all, and that's good. Just have to get the paint the right consistency, and ensure the brush is loaded up with enough paint, but not too much. That's just resolved through practice, learning from trial and error.

on the soft armour of the Space Marines, i usually paint mine grey...
a black wash between layers keeps the cracks dark...
it's really only the last fine highlight that needs to be neat, as the wash covers any little slips from the first and second highlight...

same for the sword hilts...
a wash fixes any little slips, but the final highlight needs the most careful attention...

as Wyrmpops said, use the side of the tip, instead of the point, and drag it across the raised area...
