I am Legend...finally saw it...

Ok, I finally have seen this movie, and was wondering what other folks thought about it.

*POTENTIAL SPOILERS*

I enjoyed the movie 3/4ths of the way through. I liked his isolation, how he lived his life, and even his quirkiness of talking with mannekins since he was so lonely.

The little you get to see of the \"monsters\" was tense, and frightful.

There seemed to be something going on with the \'lead\' monster. There was some sort of intelligence with him..Obviously, since they set up a trap to catch Neville, but it seemed to me he was outraged that his \'girl\' was stolen.

Yet they just competely ignored this fact in the last 1/4, turning the \'leader\' back into an insane rage driven monster.

It just built up so nicely, only to run out of steam as soon as \'more survivors\' were introduced.

Opinions?

very similar. I almost expected Nevel to give up the almost cured girl and the whole crew to then wander off to a happy ending.

And I did love how he argued with the manakin at the trap.

Disappointed

I agree... it had potential, but imo it just turned into your average zombie-flick. I had too high expectations I guess.

I enjoyed it - I thought Will Smith did a really nice jobe portraying the \"madness of solitude\". The scene where his dog \"turned\" was a tearjerker.

Interesting question about the \"intelligence\" of the feral humans. Was the trap that got Will Smith set up by the leader of the feral humans, or was it something he set up himself but forgot about in his growing madness? Maybe those who read the book the film was based on can shed some light?

Oh come on, Ritual - you aren\'t implying that Will Smith has no talent, are you? Sure he does some silly movies, but he did a fine job as Muhammad Ali, and in \"The Pursuit of Happyness\".

I admit my comment was of the tongue-in-cheek type.... But, I actually do have difficulties taking him seriously. It\'s not because he is bad, but he\'s not good enough an actor to rid himself of the stigma of his music career, Fresh Prince in Bel Air and a whole bunch of silly films he\'s done throughout his film career. He\'s an ok actor with too many skeletons in his closet. ;)

If you really have to ask, there\'s no point in me trying to explain... :innocent:

Interesting topic actually.

How about Jim Carrey? Some people have trouble with him as well. I thought I would have a problem but Eternal sunshine from the spotless mind is... well one of my favourite movies.

I think it might differ what relation you have to the actor and not only his/her skills. And how many times you\'ve seen Fresh prince... :)

Personally, I think Jim Carey is a rather good actor. Not greatest of the great, but certainly better than Will Smith (still not saying Will Smith is bad). Also, he\'s not done so many really lousy films so he doesn\'t have as much to make up for. And I agree... \"Eternal Sunshine...\" is a great film.

Another example you could mention is Adam Sandler. He\'s done at least one good film (Punchdrunk Love), but he\'s got some pretty horrible films to make up for. Therefore, I still can\'t take him seriously.

That thought occured to me as well, but I really liked the idea of these creatures (or at least one of them) had devolved back to its pre-infectious intelligence. I swear that is where the movie was pushing, but it seemed to lose track of that to give it a \'hopeful\' ending.

Will Smith was great. Premise was great.

The infected beings were a joke. Downright horrible for a 100 million film. They made no sense whatsoever and totally ruined the film.

Yet another example of how Hollywood can take a great story and trash it beyond recognition.

Utter shite - even the CG baddies were rubbish.

So I guess you aren\'t sitting on the fence on this one, Scott. :D

I was so disappointed - it was the one Yank action flick I\'d had reasonable hopes for in a long time.

Loved Omega Man, and with all the mutterings comparing it to 28 Days Later, I thought it was at least in with a chance of being better than average.

:(

What really turned the movie down were the CG deers and the lions...man they were soo cheap.

Otherwise the story wasn\'t bad, but I guess you better take up the book and read it. I also had some problems to imagine Will Smith in a serious endtime movie, but in fact I think he did a good job on this.

i really like jim carey in his straight roles. it\'s the zaniness i can\'t stand

as for i am legend. the cg was VERY disappointing. the monsters looked like they were made of rubber and the lions were shite. i thought the tension was pretty good though, especially when he was going through the building trying to find the dog. the bit after the dog turning was awful, could have cried at that point! people dying i can live with but animals affect me!

Haven\'t seen it yet, but I have to say I\'ve liked nearly every movie that Will Smith has done (Hitch being the exception).

Jim Carey, on the other hand, I do not like. I enjoyed The Mask, which was excellent, and I gained respect for him after The Truman Show, but I still picture that idiotic character he used to do on In Living Color... what was it? Fire Marshal Bill? :|~
