It\'s probably an open secret...

But the good reverend and I seem to see eye to eye on most things. Perhaps a case of art imitating reality:bouncy:
(I refer of course to our avatars...)

Rev is still around...

He pops in every now and again to say hi, but that\'s about it. Perhaps he\'s got a life?:D

I\'d ignore it for as long as possible. Sooner or later it\'ll bite you in the bum just to remind you that it\'s there...:D

We all start somewhere..

I\'m not one of the gods around here. But I have no shame in posting this....

Done waaaay back in in 1981. I was nine. Painted with enamels and acrylic paints. It\'s rolled around in many boxes and bags so its pretty badly chipped. But you can notice some highlighting of the belly scales and skin. Looks like most of the top of his hair has chipped off though. :p

I like to think I have improved a bit since then. :D

Peace!

Improved? Just a little :D

Maybe we should collect together a gallery of peoples early attempts, just to show newbies that everyone starts somewhere and that many of us were really bad when we first started (I know I was, what do you mean I\'m bad now? Cheeky wippersnapper*).

*Boy its getting bad, I\'m talking to myself on a public forum...

Of course you\'re not a painting God. That would be painting Goddess, don\'cha know.

My advice? (like I\'m really good enough to give it, but what the hell :p)

Use that magic wash stuff and a wet pallet. Buy REALLY GOOD brushes and Vallejo paints.

I do to, but it\'s just too mundane!
Besides painting miniatures is cheaper than a shrink and safer than taking flaming great sword with me when we go shopping in Tesco\'s.
(Mind you that may speed up the service at the till\'s);)

Find a way to paint with a Ace

At the GenCon Socal, I sat and painted for a while with Anthony from .PaintingClinic.com

I had one eye on my mini, and one eye on Anthony\'s painting. He let me check it out a couple of times in progress.
It was really helpful to see how he mixed up his paint, and seeing the consistency of it etc. He is one of the cult of black primer, which I have never tried, but I think I will give it a go.

It helped that it was done at a group painting class I went to. Every 5 minutes after doing something I\'d ask for his advice (being the scared and cautious painter I was then), and although I\'m sure he began to get ticked off, I did learn a lot from those classes very quickly. Learning how to paint directly from someone else is a great help.

Right on ! Learning to paint by having someone else give you the benefits of their experience is a great help.

But there is no real way of learning apart from practice, practice, practice.

I definately think that I\'ve wasted a few models in the past, due to some seriously bad mistakes, but you learn from these mistakes and then tend never to make them again. Now I\'m told that I\'m pretty good by some serious painters but as far as I\'m concerned I don\'t think that I\'ll ever be as good as I want.

Also I\'ve lost track of the amount of people taht have told me they can\'t paint...

They never turn out the GW way!

Good, Now try buying a GW blister of something and painting it how you want (I say blister because it has no pic of it painted on the back). That is their style of painting. Now it\'s time to find yours. There is no bad way to paint your mini unless it\'s not fully painted. Unless your entering to some big competition, don\'t try to please everybody with your painting. Take a look at some of the GD entrants on the site, few of them get 10, and i\'ve seen more with 10\'s that havn\'t entered a GD than I do of those that had.
As I said, get something and paint it how you want. Paint to your desire: orks pink, eldar polkadotted, and Ultramarines something other than blue! I havn\'t seen a single peiceof art, outside the mini world, that got famous for doing what everyone else did. Sure there may be fads (*cough*NMM*cough*) where some painters seem to do the same thing, but you never see two \'Stary Night\'\'s hanging in a museum from different painters (unless your a dislexic with double vision). I cannot see why people seek the need to do everything the same, and just because there are critics doesn\'t mean it\'s bad.
\"everybody does everything to the best of their abilities at the time that they do it\"

now that I\'ve alienated everyone, I pass the podium to someone else.

Perhaps he\'s got a life?

And that ends the sad story of reverand, another victom of LIFE. I call for a ban on all cerial and board games from now until someone starts listening to me. (which will be a very long time indeed)
My first mini...

Well yours is better than my monotoned wood elves (even the skin looks green). I\'m glad that i\'ve since mutated them for a never used Lost and the Damned army, but I think I may still have some lurking around, waiting for the time that i\'ve gotten any good, then they\'ll jump into someones pocket, and the embaressment will have no effect. Take that you little career wrecking montoned minis.
