I don\'t know whether to laugh or what

Most emo kids are actually pretty friendly but there are a few who make the rest look just plain bad. Same with any subculture, really.

Oh, I\'m not doubting that at all. However, every Emo I\'ve dealt with has been a self-centered, entitled piece of crap, and have been some of the biggest smack talkers I\'ve ever heard. (Of course, that could be a generational thing, and not a subcultural thing.)
The kid I smacked around last weekend for sucker punching me is an Emo.

I don\'t know any Emo kids and I really don\'t want to, lol punks are one thing but whiney overly sensitive goth punk things are too much a headache for me to deal with.

But atleast they are good for some laughs.
tickle me emo
definatly not pc n not for the overly emotional song

I vote for laugh. The very idea of emo kids assembling is amusing to me. lol

I\'m surprised it doesn\'t create a black hole, what with that much suck all concentrated in one area.

I don\'t see the laugh in this at all.

People have been brutally assaulted just because the way they look.

Why is this happening? Some replies from articles:

\"The answer is simple, emo attitude here in Mexico is anti-youngster: they do not drink, they do not have sex, they do not have fun, they go to concerts just to cry, they go to parties just to sit in a corner and cry, and they feel victims of everything, it is really, a very stupid behavior.\"

from this article:

\"At the core of this is the homophobic issue. The other arguments are just window dressing for that.\"

Hmm... yeah that seem to be great reasons of beating people up. Hooray!

Why do some people hate emos here in Sweden?

Well the sentiment I get is that people think they are annoying, \"faking it\" and that they just take room and resources from the \"really\" depressed. And yeah.. the feminine aspects as well. Boys behaving like girls, we can\'t have that, right?? :moon:

So.

Let\'s look at some facts.

-Self centrism is a primary OUTCOME of depression
-The \"nobody understands me\" business is a part of everyone forming an identity in their mid-teens. Basically everybody will go through that face even if it is short. It will probably pop-up later in life as well as you go through a life-crisis.
- Depression in children is increasing all the time.
- Prescription for antidepressants for children is exploding
-The number of suicides are increasing all the time. Suicide is the second leading death for youth in U.S.
- Basically all emos are in their mid-teens

Do you see the connection?

Now why is this? That\'s the milliondollar question! But is it really that difficult to explain? Look at the society we have built... look at the ideals we have. Peer pressure is always strongest in teens, the impact of ideals is greatest there. We get the kids we deserve.

Come on, why do so many decent folks sound like bullies when they talk about emos? Grow up!

I\'m with Avelorn on this topic.
There\'s nothing to laugh when people get hurt just because they look different and do stuff that \"normal\" society doesn\'t do.

Every generation has his own teenage culture stuff. SO allthough I can\'t find something in emo I understand, I think its an okay attitude.
@Evildave. I think you had some bad experiences with individuals, I wouldn\'t judge the whole scene.

In think the reason for the riot is just the homophobic attitude of the latino men.
Same is going on in Russia, where people get killed on homo love parades and police is just watching.

I think everyone has to have the right to do what he wants as far as he doesn\'t hurt other people!

Hmmm, over in England it\'s quite a bad thing, the amount of deaths every week because of how someone looks is horrifying.
I myself have been chased 3 or 4 times by someone with a knife because i look different.

I agree that it\'s no laughing matter, but I have to say that it\'s not just about how people look.

Emo kids tend to be unbelievably IRRITATING. It\'s a combination of looks, attitudes, and behaviors. Emo was getting started when I was in high school- I\'m not the violent sort, and even I wanted to smack a few of them around. That said, it\'s still inexcusable to act on those urges.

But groups have always been at odds. Mods v. Rockers, anyone?

If the kids truly depressed thats one thing, but the whole emo thing is trendy depression perhaps they have some issues but by and large it\'s just a trend based around music. Theres a difference between clinical depression and whining.

I do agree that there is no resion to assault someone and I don\'t believe anyone here has said that Emo\'s should recieve a beating.

I will say tho that if I caught my son stealing his mother\'s makeup and wearing his sisters clothes I would be hard pressed not to send him off to military school.

As a devote metal head, Im a bit stuck here.

First, on just to beat the whining little shits till they stop crying about mummy not letting them have enough cash to get the latest cutcutcut yourself cd.

The next is the ones who might actually have something wrong with them.

But then, every single emo Ive ever encountered falls into the first group, and although Im not a violent person, like most here, when pushed enough, I will throw you across a room.

But then, that has nothing to do with how you look, even if hes a very good looking emo lad, if he winds me up, I BREAKA YOUR FACE :D

I agree with ben, I am a metalhead/ slash hippyish lookin lad xD
Emo\'s do annoy me, but its definately not how they dress, its the attitude.
I have suffered for clinical depression for a few years and it really pisses me off when they basically mock it by being \"depressed\" just because everyone else is, that is annoying.

As I am a metalhead I also dislike the emo \"culture\". I dislike mostly the fakers who cut themselves to show off their scars and kill themselves for no reason. Their attitude, looks and whiny music make me wanna join the mob and bully the little whiners.

\"Thunder and lightning the gods take revenge
Senseless destruction
Victims of fury are cowardly now
Running for safety
Stabbing the harlot to pay for her sins
Leaving the virgin
Suicide running as if it were free
Ripping and tearing\"

it isnt only emos that have depression and cut themselves, its surprising how many people do it these days. depression is growing more and more widespread.
i dont think its right that people should beat them up or anything although granted a lot of them dont have any real problems in life compared to what some people go through (i said a lot of them, not all of them)

ive had what im fairly certain was undiagnosed clinical depression but i didnt draw attention to it because i was ashamed.

in any case in the uk the emos dont cause the problems, they arent usually a danger to anyone else.
a few weeks ago a goth girl was killed by a group of chavs/neds or whatever you prefer to call them because a group of them started beating up her boyfreind for no other reason then because he was different and she threw herself across him to protect him. they kicked her in the head so much that she died....thats the sort of thing that intolerance of other people leads to. its the sort of thing that scares me as im a bit of a goth/metaller myself and walking through the city on my own on an evening is kind of worrying.

it does make me wonder if the emo culture is growing because of the pressure that is put on young people these days to conform....schools have turned into vicious hell holes where anyone who is seen as different is bullied mercilessly....i know this from rather nasty personal experience. nobody really seems to care about each other any more and so much creative outlet is stifled.

theres no excuse for them being beaten up though...live and let live and if people want to be different then let them be as long as they arent harming anyone else.

I\'ll admitt I don\'t get the whole emo thing, but as far as I can see its a bit of a back lash of teenage angst.

Beating them up is just plain wrong, picking on em is just plain wrong. Their human beings just like me and you, so leave em to it!!
