I don\'t like this \"registered votes\" thing

Maybe I\'ll mention that I\'m 40 next time I post and see if my scores go down! I like the registered votes thing. I take the registered votes more seriously. It\'s like a jury of my peers, so to speak.

*Edit*
Can the Registered votes in yellow be hidden? They are beginning to sway my votes.

I put that because not everyone who votes knows that I\'m 13, and I feel it should be a factor. Otherwise they might assume that I\'m a 25 year old who\'s been painting for years.

bit of a stupid excuse

Please don\'t take offense Penguin, but whenever I see that on your works I\'m reminded of Mozart playing a piano sonata and reminding everyone that he is only 13 at the time.

Actually looking at your work as a good example there an equal number where the registered numbers are higher than the regular numbers.

I am really mixed about all of this, it\'s nice, but I\'m not sure it\'s all that important one way or the other.

I think in the long run it could be one step towards stopping snipers.
scores really make no difference to me I enjoy painting a 5 as much as I enjoy painting an 8.3 ....
It\'s a shame the single vote thing can\'t work for everyone registered or unregistered that would stop any false scores....
Bill don\'t be so quick on the offensive I agree the age thing does sort of play but it shouldn\'t instantly make scores higher a level playing field is what this site is supposed to be about...

Age matters in a Young Bloods competiton... not really here... I don\'t vote higher because someone is younger, or older for that sake... I vote on the product...

@Dragonsreach: Votes from the same registered person is only counted once, even if you voted a 6 and a 7 to get 6.5... it says so at the announcement :D

fun little change, and I\'m with you Steve, was pretty happy to see my registered user vote was within +/- .1 for all my minis. Does give that feeling of legitimacy to the scores.

It is funny to see some people with scores consistantly way off compaired, one way or the other, although I\'m not sure what it all means, but seems odd, and that something is up. (snipers/fanboy/vote padders).

Was also fun to find that there was one 9.9 from users, congrats on that Kirill!

I looked at myscores and registered voters seem to be 1/4 to 1/3 the actual votes and no score drops more than .2 in total score. So I think its seems to be pretty right.

I also looked at about a dozen other painters scores and see the same pattern in voteing.

In reality does this prove that sniping really doesnt exist as some see it? because in reality unregistered voters tend to vote higher than registered..if anything its vote inflation.

It depends we here a lot about sniping....Guess it\'s the whole mentality of I\'ve been robbed. I think vote inflation is probably more common..I mean is there anything to stop someone not logging in and voting their own minis higher?????

It\'s neat, but I\'m not sure what use it has. If we could view a graph or layout of the voting pattern (IE, when a particular score was entered, how many voters put in 1\'s or 10\'s, etc), that would be even more interesting. But again, probably wouldn\'t be anything more than a curiousity. Maybe I just can\'t bring myself to care about the scores enough regardless of their format. I dunno.

I do find it funny how folks would complain in the past that they were \"sniped\" when their scores dropped a whopping 0.2 points, but yet the registered votes score is consistently lower by that much (or more) on just about everyone\'s I\'ve seen thus far... Wonder how long it\'ll be before someone accuses registered folks of being the snipers. <chortles>

the search function is disables. they would have to come up randomly. either way, the new rating bypasses this problem.

Mine vary by +/-0.3, registered tend to be a little lower in general, but some are higher.

I don\'t think just using registered voters will stop snipers, in fact this data would suggest registered voters are at least harsher voters and possibly contain more snipers.

Only one thing will bring snipers, vote padding etc under control and that is to remove anonymous voting. As soon as you have to put your name to the vote its gonna reduce that stuff.

this actually stops snipers, if your a registered voter and your a supporter, you can see the score the minis actually deserve because you see the registered vote and the unregistered. correct?

This has been discussed before. Anonymous voting is the underlying foundation of any polling system, as opposed to a panel of judges. Very few people are going to express a frank, negative opinion about their peers, and honest judges are typically not well liked (Simon Colwell anyone). We\'ll end up like dicetroll.com (the old Black Orc, if I\'m not mistaken), which is nice enough if a group hug is your thing but has little utility in gauging true public opinion.

Of course the other necessary ingredient for a polling system is a large enough representative population. We\'ve got 5000 visitors per day now so I\'m more comfortable releasing the registered score information.

@ Chern Ann

Perhaps, certainly the obvious person on CMON is Tony Manero, sometimes he gives lower scores but he always backs it up.

@ Redsevenblue, I disagree, just because you are registered doen\'t mean your vote is somehow more \'correct\'. All it means is that you took the time to register, you can still snipe, pad, whatever.

1 totaled vote per mini=you\'ll have a hard time padding or snipping because it turns into one vote in the end. so 10 ones= 1 one

Padding

Look, if someone wants to pad a rating they stil can. They can set up a dozen email accounts on Yahoo or wherever and log in with each one, giving the mini a 10 with each one.

Frankly, if someone is so insecure and willing to go to that much trouble, I say let them have the higher rating. In the end, the only person they are fooling is themselves.

I don\'t get instant 10s for Christ\'s sake!

It\'s not as if every voter even reads my write-up at the bottom is it? And I never saw any rule stating that I wasn\'t allowed to put it there. It\'s up to you to make of it what you will but I won\'t be flamed for it. Do you think my scores are all instantly made ridiculous just because I write that at the bottom? Are they all instantly nullified, and I deserve to get a 6 rather than an 8?

*edit* In fact, I think you do. You commented a 6 on my last mini.

I also notice that my best rated mini has now moved down by .2 in very few votes, which after posting in this thread I doubt is a coincidence.
