My wife says it’s just me. But I have a pet peeve. One of many actually but it makes a lot of my decisions. If I see a novel or graphic novel that has a banner that reads “Now a Major motion Picture” or “Soon to be a major motion picture” I usually will not buy it. I don’t care if it is a major motion picture or TV show. I want to read the story. Not ignore it and watch the movie. Not to mention, that stamp kills the feel of the artwork on the cover. I was going to buy perfume, but all of the covers had that banner on it. I did buy V for Vendetta wit the banner. The only reason I did that was because I was desperate for something to read. But I wanted to buy the 30 days of Night Graphic novels but it has “ Soon to be a major motion picture” at the top. It kind of kills the effect of he cover for me. So, is it just me? Are there others that feel this way?

Can\'t say it would stop me from buying it, but I agree that it\'s an annoying, and frankly, unnecessary thing. Who are they aiming this sales tactic at? Those who don\'t usually buy and read graphic novels? Wouldn\'t they just see the film and not bother with the novel?

No actually it does increase sales. My local game store is also a comic shop and Chris will always do cross over advertising when movies from comics and graphic novels are released with great success.

I have this feeling too. However, I just assumed that the reason I searched three stores for a copy of \"V for Vendetta\" without the cross-marketing was because I was a snob who wanted to pretend he\'d owned the book for years before the movie came out

It\'s annoying, but as the saying goes \"Any advertising is good advertising\"

Personally it wouldn\'t put me OFF a book, but if I\'d seen the film and enjoyed it it might make me want to buy the book more, as films usually reinterpret or miss things out.

For god\'s sake don\'t avoid the comics, just avoid the movies! That way you don\'t miss often excellent comic goodness and are never subjected to the often sub-par movie addaptations.

Strangely this sort of thing dosn\'t show up to much in France, not sure why, but sure as hell not complaining.

And the perfume is one of those classical book to read, not a bad one either. Studied it in high school, haven\'t bothered with the movie yet, from what I remember of the book I don\'t see how it could make for a good movie, and pretty sure it makes for a gloomy movie.

I\'ve never liked it. And I have never pretended to be into something to seem cool. I do know people like that. To me it just seemed unnecessary. I mean it can’t get you a better job or higher station in life. Can it? ???

Kind of wish I skipped V for Vendetta, though. It wasn\'t that great of a story.

yeah, just buy the book/comic first!

Yeah. You don\'t see it alot in Asia either. I have bought a lot of books here so I could have a book with nice cover art. So...erm...yeah. It is all about the art work for me.
