Impulse control ON. RedDawn, NEVER, EVER get discouraged by looking at Alexi\'s or any other painter\'s work. Everyone was learning at some point and your work is nothing to be ashamed of.

I have to second NSA on this one. Everyone starts at some point or another. Also consider that in some places, like Japan, it is the struggle to attain mastery that is important. Once someone believes themselves to have \"mastered\" something, they stop asking questions and stop learning and growing.

I see this all the time in the theatre, especially with the Suzuki-based physical training that I do. It\'s hard stuff, and some people get discouraged by the difficulty, but it\'s always wonderful to see people improve and grow in their artistic talents.

That\'s probably one of my more serious and long-winded posts in...well...forever.

Dawn, NSA got it nailed. When I first got rated, I was in the bottom quarter of CMON and very proud to be there. The mid-point of CMON can outpaint most local competitions - unless you got DR and Eric local.

If you are serious about improving, practice, push yourself and paint with someone better than you.

If you just want to enjoy painting, don\'t compair yourself to the pros.

Use there work as a benchmark to strive for, but don\'t be upset that you are not there. I would bet that none of them got a 9 on their first mini.

I\'ll second that! That\'s really true of anything. I\'ve always enjoyed hanging out with people I think are smarter or more skilled than me because then I have the chance to learn so much more.
