I hate assembling!

I quite like assembling. Quite relaxing when painting gets too much and a break is needed.

The only time I find assembly infuriating is when the mini has bad mould lines and casting....

I actually kinf od like it. It\'s during assemble that I usually get all my ideas about base and color scheme. Or I just paint the model in my mind will removing the mold line. I like to be able to get a \'feel\' for the model befor painting it. (what do you mean I\'m weird !!)

Well, actually, even with the ones that dont work (see the infamous Bad Juju thread) I kind of like the assembly, cause I never position the minis in the same pose, even if its a regiment of troops. They all are slightly positioned differently (with in the range of possibility for the figure) so the dont look like cookie cutter figures.

That\'s the exact reason I prefer 40k over fantasy. None of that ranking up crap, and I can actually assemble multipart plastics in interesting poses. Not just static models standing there with a shield in one hand and a spear in the other trying not to bump into the model beside it.

Check out the Skaven! My husband\'s got an army, and their TAILS always get in the way whenever he tries to arrange a regiment out of them

... and I\'m just about to sacrifise my long nails. Yet again. And you know why? Because there\'s green stuff stuck under them! :~(

that\'s why i don\'t bother growing them. I file them off, dremel them off, tear them, get paint, green and resin stuck under them....it\'s all well and good, but having stumps on the end of your fingers is easier to work with then having to be afraid for that manicure....

Oh, the skaven! I had the same problem with my army. And once I had almost managed to assemble the minis and their tails to rank up and painted them, then the shields became a problem!

Still like the little fellas though, cause I actually won a game at the tournament I was attending with them

actually, works opposite for me -- with longer nails, lots of things are easier, and not only holding a brush, but, say, a kitchen knife, too plus, I\'m a journalist and I meet a lot of people ... so I can\'t really allow myself to have green stuff under my nails when I\'m holding a tiny digital recorder in my hand

Use latex gloves. I once read an article on Gaël that said he used them and ever since I\'ve done the same. I don\'t want to go into the debate of whether green stuff is toxic or not; what I can say though is that with gloves, no more fingerprints to smooth off the sculpts and no more GS under the nails .

I was initially trained as an engineer, so I really like the assembly process, getting everything to fit perfectly, removing blemishes, getting the pefect prime coat...

I had long finger nails years ago (long story, don\'t ask!), and found them very handy! Good for picking up tiny bits of minis off my work place. Also, holding meat and vegetables when chopping them up, and scratching the cats back!

Er, normally it\'s quite easy to remove GS from your nails (while it\'s still soft). Just scrape it off with a bit of plastic, wood or a sculpting tool. Or am I missing something?

I just spent about 4 hours working on assembling a space marine devastators squad. It was about the most painful experience I\'ve had in a long time. First, the sealed boxed set was a backpack short, and to order a $2.00 sprue with 5 backpacks from Games Workshop, they were going to charge $7 shipping. I don\'t really feel like paying $9 for their mistake. All that filing, drilling and glueing just about drove me insane. Assembling truely is no fun at all.

James, if you\'ve got a local GW shop, drop by and explain your case. I once needed a chain sword for an IG conversion, they gave me one without asking questions. Great guies at the Lyon store .

But if I read your post correctly you go by mail-order. In that case, just send them an e-mail; maybe they can put one in your next order.
