I hate paintnig red

Hi. Does anyone have this problem?

When I paint with GW red paints, especially Scab Red, it always turns out chunky, don\'t take me wrong, i know how to paint, but when you thin them, like you normally thin a paint, it turns out chunky, when you thin them more, you\'ll have to add a million layers, just to realise that it\'s chunky again. I don\'t know, maybe it\'s just that my paint is old...

I also had a bit of problems with red before, but it was with the highlighting. I don\'t have too much problem appling it. You could try to do a first layer of pink befor adding layers of scab red over that. Paler colors tend to be easier to put on, and this will make your reds more vibrant. Otherwise you can try using vallejo reds, I heard that they cover much better then the citadel ones. Good luck

Red is just one of those colours that\'s a little awkward to work with. I find that lots of subtle layers of highlights work best.

I\'m with Sturmhalo on this one. Lots of subtle layers work great.
I\'m also one of those strange persons who prefer to paint red over a black basecoat. Just use Modell Color Black Red or Hull Red or a Scar Red/Black mix as the first layer and work from there. You can get dark, subdued reds this way but also strong, vibrant reds.

Red ? Yeah !

Well, I wouldn´t say there is a problem with GW´s red colors, I really like them. true, there is always a bit of a problem with highlighting red, as I don´t like to get into orange. By the way, what is so strange in painting over a black undercoat - i paint all colors over black, makes a darker, better look. (I love darkness:cool:)

Nothing in my book - I am a black primer guy 99% of the time myself. It is just that you often read in tutorials or boards that red is best painted over a white basecoat.
