You could try work in some other aspect of public employment, such as Corrections. After a couple years of that (...which you will likely hate), you'll appreciate the teaching job much more.

If your composition, drawing, and painting skills are very strong, a more positive approach might be to pick up some freelance art jobs for game publishers. They're always looking for skilled fantasy artists, and the pay can be worthwhile. You'll want a "day job" to keep steady income and provide you with insurance, but creative work can be very satisfying. If you have the ability, check the Reaper Miniatures site and Kobold Quarterly for a couple of companies that could help you get your toe in the door.

well thanks to all, and the personal emails with words of encouragment. i am applying for an area manager position with amazon.com. wish me luck.

All the luck with this Uber.

This does sound like the end of the "Hahahaha, I've got three months off and you don't!" threads.... ;)

"Get into a political party and kiss arse, gravy train baby, it's where the money is and the responsibilty is left somewhere else.

Not to mention the secretaries!"

I had to laugh when I read this!

I was involved in Adult Training in one way or another for 13 years, and loved it. I did work based training so travelling to companies sitting down 1-1 with a learner and take them through a vocationally based qualification. Unfortunatley this year i got made redundant.

Now I work for a law firm, and am on the best pay I have ever been - I hate every second......I feel physically sick every day before I go in, but as the old saying goes

"When needs must, the Devil ice skates"

Don't jump out of the frying pan and into the fire, if you love teaching but hate the kids then try and stay in that sector, you'll be suprised how hard it is to get back into once you leave. Good Luck with whatever you choose.

Yeah, good luck with searching for work.. One thing you could do though, is work in construction... Its not really work since all they do is take coffebreaks, plus you'll get outside and stuff. Or take a factory job, well... If there are any nowadays.

Become a proud workingclass hero!

What exactly do you hate about your job?

My little sister is a teacher. She loves teaching, but hated dealing with school administration and structure. She now works at a private school and loves it.

Less money, but more teaching.

It's not too far from "teaching", but if you're anywhere around Atlanta, GA, I'd hire you for some one-on-one drawing/painting lessons...
