I was playing World of Tanks (it's an online game with tanks) today when someone on my team said something to the effect "My Internet connection is tethered and crap, rofl".

I immediately responded "You roll on the floor laughing because your Internet connection is shit? That's like saying, I'm poor, rofl. How is that funny? I don't get it"

His buddy, "We get it."

Later on in the game, he's killed and comments "Urg... lag".

Me, "rofl?"

Him, "Yes."

Me, "Still don't get it... unless stupid is supposed to be funny."

So... officially I'm an old coot. I am literally annoyed by the misuse of leetspeak.

My neighbours kids spilled over into my front garden while playing just last weekend. Without even thinking, I leaned out from the front window and yelled at them "Oi! Get off the flowers!"

So, yup, I'm officially an old coot, too. Welcome to the club.

Club joined, membership approved, elected to committee.

As I've said before and elsewhere I love language, so the misuse of it annoys me.
I use the acronyms, LOL, ROFL, ROFLMAO while I sending text messages but I much prefer to use plain english.

Whilst at work the acronyms most commonly used in emails are I.G.A.S., D.B.M. and I.T.G.F.R.
(See if you can work them out)

I can honestly say I have indeed laughed out loud, but I have never actually rolled on the floor while doing so.

In my opinion, one does not fully qualify for the 'old' category until they:

A: Plot out a good spot at the starin' window.
B: Sleep only 4 hours a night, at most (Stephen King refers to this as 'The Deathwatch', or something similar).
C: Spend more time pointlessly pottering about in your garden than anything else.
D: Sit on a park bench complaining to the pigeons about how much better things were when you were young.
E: Start reading the obituaries regularly to see which of your friends (or enemies) you're out-living.
F: Start wearing elastic waistband pants so that you don't have to muck about with those dad-blasted belt buckles.
G: Invest in not less than 4 hats, none of which fits correctly, though they would have when you were younger.
H: Spend more time combing your ear hair than shaving.
I: Start thinking that investing in Betamax video machines is a good idea.
J: Find going up three stairs to be an ordeal and down those same steps to be outright dangerous.
K: Can't have sugar in your tea anymore because your hand shakes so much you can't cover the distance without losing the sugar.
L: Need five pairs of glasses to do all your various daily things.
M: Subscribe to Reader's Digest Large Print Edition
N: Stop finding joy in life.

I find the thought - "you call THAT, music??" going thru my head often. I grew up hearing that about the music I liked. . . . . . .

Mr Zappa wasn't exactly mainstream...:) A genius, nonetheless...
Yep.
But as to the "You call that music?", When oh when did I turn into my father?

Back in April Fran and I were returning from Salute and when we got to Manchester Railway station a bunch(*) of young girls got off the train heading for a night out.
What went through my mind was "You're not going out dressed like that!"
That's when I knew I was OLD!!!!

(*WTF is the collective noun for a bunch of young girls going out on the Razzle.................An Arrest?)
