I\'m a painter not a fighter

Well I guess I have to admit it now as it has been 17 year since I gamed on a weekly basis and 5 years since I played anyone not related to melol
I am no longer a gamer who paints but a painter who once in a while games.
It is a brave new world for me here on-line and I hope to get out to some comps aswell so look out for my figures (when I finish any that are good enoughlol)
I want to thank you in advance for all the free advice (I guess it may cost me the odd pint at a show) and look forward to interacting with you CMON minions for years to come
Cheers James

You\'re in good company here! Just look at the gaming sections of this forum... pretty dead.

It\'s been near a year for me joining up with the online painting forums and such. I used to be a game motivated painter, but I haven\'t rolled dice in anger for a long time with any sort fo consistency.

I still love mini gaming, it\'s just that putting all the stuff I\'ve learned into practice makes the thought of painting 100 mini\'s for Warhammer not feasible to accomplish on a year or 6. I am looking into playing some of the skirmish level games with 5-10 figs a side, like Malifaux from Wyrd coming out soon.

But I here\'s ya. I get a lot of fullfillment out of the pure painting side of things now, and I never would\'ve imagined a year ago painting something that wasn\'t intended to be dice related at all.

@Scottradom I know what you mean I have just had a bonus from work and spent it on 54mm figures from Scibor did not even enter my mind to buy a new army
Is this the 2nd evolution of James (some would say I missed the first evolution)lol

Yeah, I haven\'t gamed in ages. My hubby started out with WFB, high elf army and we both played Battletech but the friends we played with all moved away. :(

For awhile I was playing LOTR but I was having to drive to Houston on the weekends to do it - that 2 hour drive got old really quickly.

So now I just collect and paint the minis I like no matter who makes them rather than try to develop armies. But I do miss playing.

I\'m definitely an artist, both in practice and in temperament. But I find that the art is more interesting when given constraints, and so I make it a point to game with my stuff.

It gives my art a focus, and the unique challenges of painting gaming pieces allows creativity to come to the fore. My favorite example of painting with constraints is the Sistine Chapel - \"Mike, you\'re a fine painter and so I want some of your stuff. But it has to be about God, and you gotta put it in the ceiling.\" Corporate art at its best.

Not that I find a problem with pure art pieces - I just find that my gaming pieces tend to be better.
