Dont we all? My ex wife painted for a bit, but it wasnt fun for her when I acknowledged she was better at it than I was, so she quit painting.

Okay, here\'s my look at it from a psychological point of view ( I hav an old Psychology book I read for fun every now and then):

Though women have better dexterity in their hands because physically the bone structure is much smaller in proporion than that of a man\'s, very few women take it upon theirselves to use this in a creative way. This is because they can give birth and when they become a mothe they feel satisfied the\'ve made the most complicated work, another life. Men see this and subconsiously, they try and imitate it by making and creating things. Even teh most butch, machistic guy you can think of does this.. for instance, if he was a biker and constantly working on it.

Now, of course this is not written in stone and there are excpetions (Keshley, Sintricat, Tammy Haye, the Unholy One..) But I would bet money that none of these gals has had a child.. So they feel they need to make something, too. Or all of this can be wrong. I intend no insults to either sex (I like females, and I\'m happy to be male.. :D )

Wow, Chrispy, not to be too confrontational, but your psychology book was written back in the mid 1950s. Trends such as flyfishing (tying those tiny flies) and miniature painting might be male-dominated, but this is a matter of preference and has NOTHING to do with the urge to give birth, or nurture, or mother. Activities that are just as tedious and eye-straining like embroidery, needlepoint, quilting, and embossing are traditionally female-dominated and are just as popular.

I\'d be willing to wager big money that women are - at least in American society - those who are most likely to create. Ever been in one of those big craft stores like Michael\'s? Nine out of ten shoppers are women picking up craft supplies for whatever project they have going. Most of these women have a screaming child in their shopping cart.

Maybe you just need a girl who is really into you. They tend to try and involve themselves in your activities when this is the case.

You might also consider not worrying about it. Become more happy with yourself and more confident. Women have an odd tendency to gravitate towards men like that.
Go figure.

Yes, Impernouncable seems to get back to the point which I diverged from and probably never going to hear the end of... :p

You could try something I did: on Valentine\'s day I gave this one girl a witch elf (oop one with heart dripping in her hand) and wrote a not saing \"you stole my heart\".. Any girl who finds that funny has my dark sense of humor, and she did so she went out with me. If she was totally grossed out, then she obivously has nothing in common with me.

But more and more women are getting into the hobby nowadays. Just don\'t expect a supermodel who paints like Cyril, kay? :D

Alternate viewpoint from smartass with little knowledge of psychology... maybe they\'re all doing the crafts because they have the annoying kids running around the house all day and nothing to do for themselves :p

one of my housemates was always doing little creative things and showed an intersest in modelling. one day i persuaded her to have a go and she painted a bretonian (sp?) archer and she did it better than i did. damn her!! she had more patience for a start. she also had a try at sclupting a head. she did it all in one go - it wasn\'t very good but for a first try it was absolutely amazing. needless to say i was gutted. luckily, being student, money was tight for her (spent all her money on booze and clothes) so she never bothered after that. thank godlol

Ahem.....

Ok being a girlie, I feel compelled to give my two penneth worth on this subject.

I\'ve been into model painting since 1985 - introduced by a male friend of course - and at that time there weren\'t alot of women doing it. I\'ll admit that I do have a creative streak in that I also like embroidery, stamping and all that ultra \'girlie\' stuff.

BUT......I also love computer games: Quake 3, UT2003, Counterstrike, SOF, MOHA etc and I\'m a confirmed gadget freak - so what does that make me?!?! Either a great girlfriend or someone that guys will avoid \'cos I\'m not girlie enough! lol

I hate being categorised - I like what I like and that\'s just a part of me. I don\'t think my hobbies are there as subsitutes for kids - but maybe the cats are :D

PS.. I need a boyfriend - don\'t care if he paints or not - a pulse will do

I think you might be setting your standards too high.lol My 30 year old sister spends most of her time racing cars and setting up a skate park. She plays games too. I guess that just makes her a tomboy. That\'s fine; I kind of married one.:)

That\'s how it all starts off....next thing you know, they are expecting respiration and after that, ambulation.

Is there no end to the rapacious demands of the female!!!lol

Oh dear, you\'ve gone and done it now! Admitting you\'re female, into miniatures, and are looking for a fella is a sure way to get every kind of fruit loop asking you for a shag (after perusing their collection of space marines and comics that is!)!

lol

(hope I didn\'t just stereotype a whole load of people... ahh sod it if I have!)

lol

Well, not only do I love to paint minis, I \'m also a wife and the mother of a 7 month old and, get this, the DM for our gaming group.:D
I\'m a PS2 and PC RPG junkie... I guess I do a lot of things that are typical \"guy\" hobbies. But if I do these things, surely there\'s someone in Springfield who does too, so cheer up Subhuman, you\'ll find her some day...maybe. You just have to put down the brushes long enough to look. :p

Oh, yeah, and Chrispy, having a child did not make me wanna stop painting. Slowed me down for a little bit...just thought I\'d add that in for ya there.:D
