I need help with finding backgrounds for pictures!

I have been linked to a pretty good place on the internet where I can buy backgrounds: http://setshop.com/index.php?cPath=4_10_24

So why am I here asking then?

Well my problem is that I have just ordered 4 backgrounds, worth 40 dollars, and now I have got an email saying that the transport alone will cost me 100 dollars, plus taxes and toll when the package arrives to Denmark. The company will wait for what I have to say about the transport price before they ship it to me.

Now this transport cost is way out of proportions if you ask me. If I have no other solutions I will buy the backgrounds anyway, but I really hope that some of you knows a good place in Europe where you can get them.

So speak out if you do!

Cheers - Morten:)

I went to a scrap-booking/paper store and picked up a couple shades of blue and gray for backgrounds. They were maybe 15 cents each.. ;) Stationary stores should also have some smooth, colored paper to use.

I don\'t think you need those things. I haven\' t time to look too closely, but material and size can make a big difference, particularly size.

There are several gradients available you can print out if you have a good color printer. That\'s all you need for what we do.

Even if you don\'t have access to a good colour printer yourself you\'ll probably be a lot cheaper off going to a printing company asking them to print a suitable gradient for you.

Those seem like such a rip. I would not go with them. Some one posted a link to a blue-white gradiant a while back. Let me see if I can find it again. :D

Modo unless you are into more photography than minis (something like people or other large items, an 8.5 x 11 (regular printer sheet) size will do fine. There is a link in my sig for a diffuser and also a blue/white fade. (the part where Finn says I am smart.)

Nah tell them to forget it!
There are much easier ways of getting coloured gradient backgounds.
An A4 colour printer and good quality paper will be of better financial benefit (ie more minis to paint) than coughing up a load of cash to this company.
If you are stuck then undoubtedly there will be a few people on here willing to help out.

EDIT: I can\'t start off a PM at the moment so if you need any help please do not hesitate to send a PM. :)

Buy???

I was fortunate enough to be directed to a \"download gradient\" link. Use good colour printers at work so no problem. As others have said if you don\'t have access to a decent printer a highstreet printer place will sort you out.

Thanks a lot for your help!

I have cancelled the order now as your ideas seems much better!

I was thinking: Is it possible to make a pic in photoshop that shows a gradation made with the gradient tool, and then make a printing company print that pic out? Like this one I have just made in photoshop: Example

Again, thanks for your help!

Cheers - Morten :)

Of course it is, but it\'ll still be expensive!

Just shoot the mini on a white or light coloured background and slap a gradient over it in Photoshop.

Cut out the middle-man!!

Letting a firm print out a gradient shouldn\'t be too expensive. You only need about an A4 size. But, as Scott mentioned, you can apply the gradient in photoshop. That\'s what I do. It can be a bit tricky sometimes, if you get painted areas that are very close in colour to your background. With a bit of caruful manual masking you\'ll be able to fix that, though.

Yeah I know. I have been a fervent user of the gradient tool in photoshop for some time now. But I have gotten tired of it. I think it makes the pic looks less trustworthy. If you take this pic for an example you just know it is trustworthy: http://www.coolminiornot.com/81082 You can see some shadows, the color is not complely perfect, there is small places of dust here and there. These are just the small things that makes the pic better for me. A lot better than a superphotoshopped pic where really don\'t know if it is the truth or you are being let to see.

Besides that I have gotten tired of having to photoshop a background for each photo.
