I normally don\'t...

I normally don\'t promote my minis here, however I just put up a post which I challenged my painting ability with in a couple ways and I would love feedback.

Take a look

Jolie, Female Scribe with Familiar

The dress was painted in a style I have never before used, The sliver nmm around the neck was also a style new to me. This was also my first owl, and a bit of a shot in the dark, however I think he turned out well.

Thanks for any comments/critisms!

The light has worked, it just stricks me that you seem to lack your normal confidence in painting this miniature. The blending isn\'t so perfect and the highlights look almost \'paintely /impressionistic\', having said that it works very well. You seem to have broken through the \'pain-barrier\' with this one. I can almost see the effort put into it!

You should have a go at painting some other miniatures in that style, or use some of the techniques and see where it takes you.

But you should be happy with it :D

Thanks a ton for all the comments here and posted with the mini. It has helped me \"see\" what was really going on with her. It was one of those situations where I had what I was trying to do in my minds eye, and after stairing at this chunk of metal for hours I couldn\'t really see what was going on past what was in my mind. I think a good nights sleep probably also helped.

Donga I think you\'re right on, the confidence wasn\'t all there. I didn\'t invest the same time in blending and some of the details because I wasn\'t confident that the dress effect would work so why take the time! I actually only spent about 6 hours on her, however I think the next time I try this, the mini will get a good deal more time.

Also I am seeing the hair color was perhaps a poor choice, I have a silver cat and was hoping to pull off silver hair, but I don\'t think it worked as well as I\'d hoped.

Ok, before I get too self reflective and analytical I\'ll just post this and get back to work!

Thanks all,
Eric

I like the dress a lot! It\'s really shiny, almost glowing. Cool! I gave you a 9 even though the skin maybe could have been blended a little smoother. The dress makes up for that though :)

the mini is cool but...

I think there is no shame in \'promoting\' your minis here, especially someone of your obvious talent.

The thread header is even called \'discuss submissions\'....

Someone might jokingly refer to posted these threads as \'pimping your wares\' or \'shamelessly plugging\' but those are just jokes.

I for one WANT to see miniatures posted, then threads discussing said miniature. It is not only fun, but it is a great way to learn, pass along pointers, get advice, etc. etc.

So, hopefully you will do it (promote your minis) here more often!!

@EricJ: I like the hair colour, if it had been a bright red or auburn it would have taken over the look of the mini. I think the choice is bang-on or maybe blond, but the colour looks more etherial (sp?) than blond.

I am still trying to make up my mind about that darn hair, I think the silver worked ok, perhaps it needs some more smoothing and blending attention to make it looks silveryer (made up word!). The only other color I think it really could have been with the limited palate used here is brown similar to the book/boot/dress straps, and I am thinking that would look worse.

Thanks everyone for the feedback in all the various forms, it\'s really been a ton of help, I\'m quickly being convinced that posting to get and give input here is a gem of the site I was overlooking!
