I believe myself to be intelligent, but I have to admit I have no idea who Herery the 8th is.

I don\'t think that Beo thinks people who do not hold a degree are unintelligent. Neither do I think he expects everyone he goes out with to be a perfect match. Nor do I think he is not prepared to listen to a gf when she has had a bad day (just that he doesn\'t want a huge amount of this). Correct me if I am wrong, but that\'s what I think.

If he wants a a gf who knows x, doesn\'t think getting drunk is the best social activity, and who has some hobbies then fine. I don\'t see a massive problem with wanting a partner that fits certain criteria. If you like to talk about x then if you find a partner that likes x too then it\'s a good start.

There\'s an old saying that I think might have some relevance here;

\'The faults you find in others are often the faults that you find in yourself.\'

Maybe it\'s you who are lacking in intelligence...after all, it took you how long to realise that the lights weren\'t on in her attic?

Pull the plank out of your own eye before you would pull the splinter out of hers.

I get that \'I\'m smarter than you\" feeling here amongst the other foreign teachers. Its seems that Alabama is an IQ rating, and not a place you live.

@Ebonbuddha: An \'antic\' is an old piece of furniture

@DR: It\'s not a good Monday morning, is it? ;)

One of the previous girlfriends was less educated than I, also a bit duller. Yet quite capable of having a really interesting conversation, so it didn\'t matter. But I found that being more educated/smarter/whatever actually threatened her. She thought I was always talking down to her when I used words she didn\'t understand, she felt inferior somehow. Did I treat her that way? I don\'t know, though I certainly did not intend to, indeed I respected her for other things.

beowulf, was there nothing in her that you admired or respected?

of course there was :D she was a girl after all.

i think the whole \"type of intellignece\" thing is a bit of a fallacy at any rate. *fixed to make me look less like a dick.*

i believe that they are more functions of the behaviour more than percieved native intilligence.

i believe people know a lot of trivia because they are inquisitive. i believe they are good at math because they like symmetry or problem solving. they are good at english because they like social interaction.

a person excels at what they like doing. people don\'t actualy excel at what they are natively good at. weird but there you go.

so by saying she isn\'t knowledgable about triva and not being happy with that. i\'m more inclined to believe he means that she isn\'t inquisitive and she doesn\'t share his love of little information tidbits.

which is in fact a fairly good example of people not being compatable. but the root cause is not intelligence. it\'s behavioral.

If you wanted to vent among intelligent people, then why did you post HERE?

Phallus: a symbol or representation of the penis
Fallacy: a false or mistaken idea

Combine the two... lol
(Not a dig on you farseerlum. It\'s either a terribly clever word combo or the best misspell ever.)

I seriously hope not, or my membership of Mensa is a waste of time.

I\'m a university dropout myself, graduated high school 3rd in my class... 3rd last. Failed calculus 3 times during my tenure at university and statistics twice. I\'ve always been more athletically inclined than educationally. These mean I\'m dumb too?

Did I mention I\'m a roofer, roofers arn\'t exactily well known for their breadth of knowledge (mind you I own the company and make a fair bit more than most college graduates). My favorite TV show is Survivor (show pretty much responsible for making reality TV popular in North America) Oh yeah and I can\'t spell worth a damn.

My MENSA membership (well I let it lapse a while ago) and/or my 145 IQ say otherwise. I\'m always happy to match brain pans with anyone feeling up to it and have always rather enjoyed it when \'intelligent\' people have made judgements from looking at me and then started to \'talk down\' (I\'m 6\', 245lbs (17.5 stone for you brits) and since I\'ve been a roofer typically scruffy looking). Enjoyed it of course because I tend to take those sorts of \'better than thou\' types to town intellictually.

I\'m pretty full of myself really, but I don\'t try to make myself feel better by putting others down (which is what it seems you are doing), have never felt the need to. In fact as someone else mentioned, that is a sure sign of covering your own inadaquicies.

My ultimate point... If you find your not compatable with someone of the opposite sex then move on. But move on and keep your mouth closed about her, it\'s not nice to put people down and it\'s especially not nice to promote yourself at anothers expense.

PS: I really and truely am a horrible speller, this dang box needs a spell checker.

ha ha yeah my bad. it\'s because i keep using phallacy as a sort of intelligence pun.
ie men thinking with their head is a phallacy.

kind of sticks now. lol must remember to empty the trash out of my head one day.

My favorite part about this thread is everyone defending the girl, mentioning all the different ways to judge these things, questioning what true intelligence is, etc, etc..

THEN being darn sure to point out how indisputably intelligent they are.

(did I mention how amazing my IQ is? Don\'t want to let this thread go without mentioning that)
