I seem to be going backwards not forwards...

I feel like I\'ve lost my groove recently in so many ways, including painting.
I wasn\'t feeling this mini but I painted it anyway - and quite fast for me - about 8 hours I guess including the base.
The gradated cloak was a new thing, as was the type of base, and the blood effect (which doesn\'t show up well in the photos) and the chips on the shield were are first too.

I need to get a grip on my anxiety at the moment, so I\'m glad I\'m not painting anything really important. I\'m hoping my new project will get my excitement and concentration back up.

But feedback on this one would still be appreciated.

Thanks.
B.

I know the feeling :(

Seriously though, I\'m liking the diorama, my main comment would be try not to complicate it, dont get me wrong the effects look great, but don\'t neglect things like the skin tones etc..

I\'m liking the figs, where are they from?

same thoughts as Alex ...(or is it Akex)

I think the grass at the back looks a bit big and out of place and a little two uniform size wise.. a little more highlighting on the substrate could really help make the figures on it pop a touch more...

I think everyone goes through off phases we are all only human .. I find it best to clear off any part finished works look at what I really want to do and start some new fresh projects..
Anxiety expresses a desire to improve and you are worrying too much about that side of thigs and forgetting the important reason to paint .. for fun.... relax enjoy it and it\'llall come good.

I think the dark, uniform \'soil\' really kills the work a bit. I would imagine that a quick highlight on it would help bring a stronger contrast between Arthur and the base.

You need more contrast, push the highlights, make it \'pop\'. That would also help with the base, because they would stand out from it more.

True....simply true. I don\'t know how old you are - I\'m 47 and it used to FREAK ME OUT when that wonderful \'creative space\' would simply vanish. About the worst thing you can do (I know this from painful experience) is to try to MAKE it happen. Experience the rest of life. Forget art for a while. Quite literally we are resting our creative \'muscles\' during these times......the \'magic\' will come back.

Absolutely agree. Painting minis is my hobby first and foremost. I see absolutely no need to push it out of some sort of notion that I \'must\' paint! I took a break of 3 months from November through to the new year, when I just didn\'t have the urge at all (although I bought loads of minis and paints:p ). All of a sudden I wanted to paint, and the feeling\'s still there. Never worry about losing the skills you have - it might take a mini or two to get out the gremlins, but it just like riding a bike really - you don\'t forget what you\'ve learnt!

I guess i\'m quite lucky, when I dont feel like painting I feel like sculpting and converting, then it swaps back..

Thanks guys - it\'s not really the painting that\'s making me anxious and stressed - just life in general. It\'s just seems to be having a negative effect on my painting.

The models are from Westwind Alex.

Take some time to chill. I really like this diorama. I\'ve never actually DONE a diorama, I\'m just focusing on trying to get upper 6s, and maybe my next 7. Dioramas scare me.

Good stuff!

(Go camping! The weather\'s good here at the moment and I went recently to chill out. It was cheap which is just as well cos I lost my job in the recession. Something will turn up though.. positive mental paint-itude!)

aye, i\'m the same as akez! seriously though, if you are feeling stressed but mini painting isn\'t the cause, just do some little pieces for yourself. i find trying to finish somehting for a comp has a negative effect as more pressure is put on the end result

Whenever im in a bit of a rut like this, as i was months ago i did two things which has helped me alot.

Firstly i posted some of my work on here from when i started painting to my latest work, the comments were really helpful to me and everyone on this site really helped motivate me.

Then i painted something completely random but relatively simple with a technique i\'d been meaning to try so maybe a fresh approach to something you want to do might help? It\'s always better to paint something you\'ll have fun with and want to. But to echo the thoughts of others just relax and have fun ! :drunk:
