Ok. So, I opened up my mouth ... thanks to Temperance for the questions about my Red Lioness.
Q: How\'d you do the base?
A: Simply, epoxy putty. I use a brand called Milliputt (silver-grey I believe is the variant I use). It comes in 2 rolls ... you cut a hunk of each and kneed them together until the colors of the two have completely blended. Once they\'re mixed, you have \"clay\" that\'ll remain quite workable for 30-45 minutes and will harden to rock-like in about 4 hours. It also takes paint very well. After I\'ve got the right lumps of clay placed about the figure, I use dental picks (which I found at my local model railroad store ... they seem to have more tools than the local gaming shops do) to sculpt the putty into the proper shape. For the rocky stuff, any \"blade-like\" pick will work for pushing/poking the putty. For the water, I cut grooves in the putty to get the look of water flowing around the rock. Finally, after painting the base and matting the entire figure, I use some gel media (found at your local art supply store) to give it a nice shine.
I hope this helps; feel free to send msg/email if you\'ve got additional questions,
jim
