Well, I think the only reason this actually worked was because of the press coverage and internet buzz generated from the project. If everyone did it...pretty much becomes useless.

Although he did pretty darn well to get house out of it, and from the looks of the photos, he found himself a replacement big red paperclip.

Just wait, the first guy who got the paperclip will put it on ebay, and due to all the press will sell for more than the house is worth...

just a peeve of mine...

It is a cool little story, BUT....

I like this line...

\"The town will hold auditions for which resident gets to try their hand at staring in a Hollywood film. Kipling\'s population is 1,140, so the auditions could take some time. \"

I should get that role, I won like three staring contests before......of course I think they mean STARRING, but the idiots who write the news now-a-days are not smart enough to actually proof read...that is the reliance of a inherently flawed computer spell checker.

I\'m not picking on poor spellers...but egads, that is from a PROFESSIONAL writer/reporter, he/she gets PAID to do that...

To quote the Simpsons:

\"I agree entirely, them imigants come to our country and they can\'t even be bothered to lurn the langidge.\"

\"Those are exactly my sentimonies.\"

lol I\'m not implying that you are a hypocrite, just the Simpsons and therefore the whole of America :p

Also funny that the town has a smaller population than my school lol

For What Fredy\'s Tyrion sold for on ebay you could buy 4 second hand cars in the garage round the corner from me.
That would give you a good start towards getting a house.

It is a bit strange, I\'m not sure why anybody would trade anything for a paperclip to start with. The rest of it, I could see. As for the door knob, maybe it was antique, original, or a discontinued style that somebody was trying to find, but the paperclip baffles me. It\'s not that it\'s a useless item, it\'s just such an incredibly cheap item. It would be like saying, \"what would you give me for this penny?\" ???

I think the point of it wasn\'t that he was a shrewed businessman making increasingly profitable trades. Rather that he used the internet to create a media event that in their desire to be involved, people would trade incrimentally more valuable items.

I think Eric his the nail on the head.. this was all about people willingto offer something valuable in order to get their name in the the news..For most traders it was cheap publicity for them.

This will only go as far as the 15 min of fame associated with it lasts. Now the guy is optioning his story for movie rights and the town where the house is located is hoping to cash in on the movie being produced in their town.

If I were the guy Id keep goint till i had something of value worth a million bucks.

Its like the guy with the web site that sold advertiseing links for $100.00 each I think it was..he sold enough to make a million dollars. The webpage was crammed but 10,000 people thought it was worth the 100.00 bucks cause as word got out the millins of hits the web site was generateing was send them traffic.

I myself would like to get 50,000 people to send me a $1.25 each.. ( the quarter is to cover the paypal fees) Hey Im not greedy..
