Ice for bases

I need to make ice for my army bases, and i'm clueless how to do it. Basically, what i'd be aiming for is something like this ;

I did something i think is oKay with plaster for the presentation tray, but now i need to do bases, which most are 20mmx20mm. What should i do?

Would resin with a small tint of blue work? Can i "break" it in different irregular form?

Other option i considered is using anarchy models crystal, but that get expensive fast.

2 possibilities I can think of:

- Ice from JBT's video: basically different blue, green, white shades mixed on the surface with gloss varnish

- make a mould and cast them in a blueish tinted clear resin. (for example: https://cipher-studios.com/2011/11/creating-resin-terrain/ but with a clear one and in the shape you want ; sadly the original HD-ice-terrain isn't available anymore)

Where is that video?

I'm not 100% sold on the sprue crystal either.... I think maybe its the example that isnt right.... i'd want that color, but with that kind of ice ;

ice or snow?
Snow can be achieved with white glue and micro-balloons, or white glue and baking soda.
A glazed snow can be made by sprinkling alum on top of the snow before the white glue sets.

left to do ;
gloss varnish
do something between the broken ice... thinking about filling it up with snow.... or maybe trying some water effect with mod podge...

ya those are cool! (no pun intended) I vote for some snow. Probably the Secret Weapon stuff. It looks good and you won' need to touch it with a paint brush after .

Lovely work. Ironically (or maybe completely planned out) the broken ice gives the riders a real sense of speed and motion when combined with their sculpts!
